Our class Skyped with Mrs. Mathieson's class. We read The Three Little Pigs from the book, You Read To Me, I'll Read To You. Mrs. Mathieson's children read the part of the Wolf and we read the part of the Pig. We had a good time.

To wrap up our unit on The Mitten, we worked in stations to celebrate what we learned. Students took a drawing lesson from Jan Brett, author of The Mitten, sewed their own mitten and colored and cut out animals that can be used to retell the story, and finger knitted.

As part of the Daily 5, we've started Read To Self. We're up to reading independently for 10 minutes. Students are able to read quietly, get started right away, work on stamina, stay in one place, and read the whole time. Each day we add another minute or two. It's a wonderful part of our day and one that everyone looks forward to.

We received a Christmas card from a class in York, Pennsylvania. They told us the York Peppermint Patty originated there. Of course we had to taste one. They're delicious!

We had a lot of fun making Christmas cards for our friends around the country. We love receiving cards also. It's been fun learning about other states.
