Hansel and Gretel - A retell
Once upon at time but not in our time, there were two kind-hearted parents who had two lovely children. They lived peacefully until sadly, their mother died and the poor father grieved. After a while, he decided to remarry. The family lived in the woods and had to work very hard although it was no use because the money didn't last. They managed to get food but only for a while.
Now the children's stepmother had an evil mind and she desperately wanted to get rid of the children. So she persauded the father to send them into the gloomy, murky woods where they were going to be lost.
Secretly, Hansel collected some peebles as he had overheard the parents say that they were going to be left in the woods.
He left a trail of stones and his parents left him. Later on, at night, Gretel and Hansel woke up to find the parents gone. Hansel spotted the peebles and that helped them to get home.
The stepmother was FURIOUS! She ventured them further into the woods. This time Hansel dropped some breadcrumbs, but the birds ate them up. This forced Hansel and Gretel to search for a shelter for days. They could not find one until amazingly right in front of them was a house made of candy! They heard an old witch disguised as a woman calling them to come in and eat, but it was really them that the witch wanted to eat.
After the children finished eating, the witch heated up the oven and asked Gretel to go into it to test the temperature. The witch had shoved Hansel into a cage and was just about to push Gretel into the oven, but Gretel tricked her to go in instead. Gretel let Hansel out of the cage and the witch was burnt. So the children filled their pockets with gold and silver, and managed to find their way home. When they got home, they learnt that their stepmother had died. So they all lived happily ever after with enough money.
