I arrived at school with my dad getting ready to go to my first school camp. I was so excited because it was my first time to be with my friends away from home.
Rongopai came with me in my dad’s van to camp. Finally we were at Tui Ridge. It looked mysterious because it didn’t have any activities around and I couldn’t spot any. When we got to the meeting place, I sat down on my bag with my friends Shane, Mac and Kaleb (bunk buddies).
We were shown to our bunks and set up our beds. After that we were sent to the dining room in the front of a stage. We sat in our groups as we listened to the teachers. My first activity was archery. There were long bows with blunt arrows. We were told how to put the arrows in the bows and first up was Dominic. When it was my turn, I missed completely, it went straight over the target and almost into the bush. My second show was a little bit good because I hit the black (the black means 10 points). My fifth shot I hit the balloon. If you hit the balloon you get a lollipop – Yum!! It tasted like fanta.
We had morning tea. For morning tea we had our food brought from home. Next we went to play humpty soccer. It was hard work but lots of fun. Then we had a game of badminton, that was really fun.
After lunch we went on kiwi flyer. The kiwi flyer instructor told us how it works. How it works is a person is harnessed in and you have to run and grab a cone, you then get pulled up in the air before you try to grab the cone. The kiwi flyer was my best activity. Then we went to the BMX. We rode around the roads. It was boring!! We weren’t allowed on the track because it was too muddy. Then we went back to Archery. I hit the balloon again and I got another lollipop. Crunch..Crunch..Crunch it was gone in a millisecond!!!
After tea we went to the Burma trail. It was really scary. Dad was one of the scarers, everybody was scared of him. It was kind of dark on the Burma trail and freaky because of the moon. When we got back to camp we had some hot chocolate and 2 biscuits. Then we went to the bedrooms and went to sleep. I got to sleep at around about 11:50pm.
We were all woken up at 6:25am in the morning. We got dressed and packed our bags and then it was day 2. I had cornflakes and rice bubbles for breakfast, yum yum yum, it went down the hatch.
And the same thing happened again, we met at the dining room in our groups and our day started. The weather was cloudy and spitting. When I was abseiling the weather was pouring with rain and I started to freeze.
The flying fox was ok. You are harnessed in, you pass the men the locks and you get pulled up and you get locked in the flying fox. Finally they open the gate and whizzzz, there I go flying a hundred feet off the ground. It was a really long flying fox, longer than the one at Palmerston North. When I got to the bottom, I was hooked off and ran the harness back up to the top. It was fun. I had three turns.
It was sad to leave camp but it was nice to get home to.

In the dark dark forest of PNG birds were singing loudly and fish were splashing water in the air. The muddy ground was as brown as chocolate. The waterfall wounded like rain as the water was smashing on the rocks. The birds were sitting on big aged rocks having a good time in the sun. Snakes were protecting the trees from a possums eating all the leaves.
Zac ran out of the bush and into the creek. He had hazel eyes. He was very tall, very muscly and is really smart at surviving. His shorts were blue and his pants were green. His shoes were as black as the night. His hair was blonde. He likes to explore all the time and to discover things. He likes to climb trees.
Aaaah! Thud! As Zac tripped over a snake. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him. But suddenly he came to a deep river. The water was flowing really fast. Aaaah! SPLASH! Zac fell into the river. The river was so clear, he could see the bottom. The river had sharp rocks on the bottom. The river took Zac into a big deep pond. Zac got out of the pond and got out his home made crossbow. The crossbow had a wooden arrow that he had made when he was running away from the snake. Zac went to the river and shot the snake that had been chasing him. He made a whole pack of wooden arrows and a bag that was made of flax to hold them. He went to the river to get some fish. Zac came to a clear river and made a camp fire and a hut. He found a bird and called it Peck. Zac got the bird so he wouldn’t be alone. Peck was a really fast flyer. Zac starts a bush fire and stays there for the rest of his life.

HATUPUTU’S ADVENTURE
A long time ago there were three brothers. They were out hunting but without Hatuputu. When he was left behind, he thought of a trick. He ate all of the food and then he stabbed and bruised himself, but nothing changed. Hatuputu only got the leftovers. He did the same trick but his brothers spotted him eating the food. They were so angry that they killed Hatuputu! They buried him with pigeon feathers. A spirit bought Hatuputu back to life.
While he was hunting he threw a spear into a bird woman’s lips, so she grabbed Hatuputu and kidnapped him. One day Hatuputu told the bird woman to go out far in the mountains to get more food. When she went to the mountains, Hatuputu cooked all the food and killed all the animals except one then he took the cloaks and he ran away! The little red bird yelled as loud as it could “Hatuputu escaped, Hatuputu escaped”. The bird woman flew to find Hatuputu. She found him by the hot mud pool. Hatuputu jumped over the mud pool but the bird woman fell in and got burnt to death!

This graph shows that the tinfoil was the best insulation because it had the least temperature drop over 45 minutes. However during our testing we found that the following affected our results:
The types of container size – the bigger containers lose more heat than the smaller ones. The time it took to get the water into all the containers to start the test and whether some people left the lids on when taking the temperature and some who didn’t as the heat would escape.

Last week our class went to the Aquatic Centre. We went in a loud roaring bus to the Aquatic center! My foot really really hurt, but it was fine in the water. We met the swimming teachers.I got Joe. We went to the canoes first.I had a race with another canoe. We were paddling with a oar using our hands! There were six people on the canoes. In the next few seconds I noticed that the whole canoe was underwater! Now that was freaky! We won.I was just staring at the teacher. When we were close to the edge Andrew tipped over the conoe!I had a cool day.
