Lovely weather...not too hot and not too cold. Let's have a sports day for all the juniors. The parents kindly came to help soooo we had really small teams and lots and lots of turns at each activity.

Here are some of our thoughts.

We read a story called Peach Boy.

The little, old woman in the story did her washing in the river. We found this quite amazing as washing in our homes is done in the good old washing machine.

We wondered what it would be like to do our washing in a river sooooooo we decided to give it a go !!!

We all got a t-shirt and wore it for 2 days making sure it was nice and dirty, and... oh my goodness... they were dirty.

We took a photo of eachother, drew a map showing the main dirt spots so we could measure how clean our t-shirts would be after washing in the schools Waitawa Stream......

...then set off to do the deed.

When we were too cold to carry on we squeezed out as much water as possible and hung them on the fence to dry. Our school didn't look too good from the road and one of the mums asked if we were taking in washing to make money!!!

Plan B.

.........

..................

Enjoy our thoughts about Plan A and B so far.

Plan C.

Here are some of our thoughts.

Well, what a great start to the year.

Lovely new tools...colouring pencils and jovi crayons... and stacks of paper inviting us to use them.

Let's use them to draw and colour a portrait of families.

We shared what we already knew about keeping ourselves safe when around fire. We also found that we knew what to do to keep ourselves safe, if our house had a fire!

1. We checked our smoke alarms.

2. We practised Get down. get low. Get out....FAST!!!

.......

3. We worked out our escape plans.

4. We discussed the importance of having a safe meeting place.

5. We practised saying our street nimber and name, and our suburb and city. (although we struggled with the terms...'suburb' and 'city' )

Danyon brought an Ostrich egg shell to school.

"It's a Moa egg!!!" shouted the kids. "Our big moa has layed an egg!"

"We could make some baby moa" suggested Danyon.

"What a good idea" agreed Miss J.

"Let's do it".

Danyon brought another ostrich egg to school. "It's a real egg" he said. "We got it from an ostrich farm."

Danyons told us they were good to eat .....soooooooo.... we decided to cook it.

We wrote stories about our thoughts aaaaand drew some pictures to support our writing.

All of us tasted the ostrich egg. Some of us enjoyed it and others didn't.

"You are now Moa experts" laughed Miss J. "See if you can...

1. overlap your shapes

2. make your closer things bigger.

3. show texture by using layers of pastel

4. have a horizon and a background.

5. clean the pastel off the tables when you have finished.

Good luck my little artists.
