Terrific Twelves are a class of Year 3 and 4 Kiwis, aged 7 - 9. We are an e-learning class this year, so we will be extending our e-knowledge and skills by using all sorts of software programmes. Blogging is a great way to document our progress, and it also allows us to share our exciting learning globally. Take a look at our learning so far...

My time at Lynmore School has come to an end. I've had five amazing years at Lynmore and it's been a blast. But it's time to move on and so next year I'll be at Otonga School, also in Rotorua.
This is the last photo taken at Lynmore, featuring my class of 2009 and the mural my Enviro Savers team have just completed.
My class this year have been absolutely amazing, what an incredible bunch of children, hard working, fun loving, and great senses of humour (essential attribute in my class).
I'm going to miss you all...remember to keep blogging, you can on this site until January, then look for your new teacher's blog to find your page.
I'll post a link to my new blog early next year, so remember to come back and comment, I'd love to hear how you're all doing.

I am very proud to be part of the process that earnt Lynmore School the Bronze Award from Enviroschools. We've worked hard to achieve this award, implementing lots of sustainable practices at school. Two of our Enviro Savers group represented the school in receiving this award.
What a great moment!

I've been really lucky this year to lead Environmental Education school-wide. We've introduced some great intitiatives to complement the sustainable practices already in place at Lynmore. My enviro group have been switched on and motivated to make change at school.
We celebrated a year of enviro action by painting a mural on a wall that has been crying out for some decoration (white and boring).
Our mural depicts Mt Tarawera (Lynmore's mountain), the lake, beach, Kowhai tree and flax bush, all things important to our area.
We used a style similar to Hundertwasser, where our painting is in a series of stripes, there's lots of curves and vibrant colours.
We're extremely proud of the end result. What an amazing project to be part of.

Tuesday was the very last day of the school year for us, and we celebrated a year of amazing work by making cool gingerbread men decorations for our Christmas trees. Mrs Farrar, our amazing teacher aide from 2008 was our expert extraordinaire, who guided the children through the process. We had some very original looking gingerbread men in the end.
A very enjoyable activity!

We've been writing a letter to a Member of Parliament this term after studying the impact of plastics on our environment in term 3. We finally finished and this week got ready to send them. Interestingly, addressing an envelope was a new experience for many of the children, obvioiusly not something that they experience very often in their digital lives.
We've asked our MP's to either ban plastic bags altogether or place a levy on them to discourage people from using them. We've provided a number of facts about plastic bag usage and the awful impact on our environment worldwide.
We think New Zealand should follow many other countries in the world, and get rid of plastic bags.

Today for lunch we did something really different! We had a camp cook-out in Waitawa Bush. All the children brought along food, firewood, utensils and spades. They dug holes, created a fire, cooked and ate their lunch and when they were finished they left the area looking like it had before.
All sorts of things were cooked for lunch, sausages, bacon and patties were favourites, followed by toasting of marshmellows with melted chocolate. What a delicious lunch!
See for yourself how it all went...

Today Room 12 children got gardening... it was time to harvest our carrots, spring onions and cauliflowers. We've been giving away our veges for a gold coin koha and today we had to harvest to meet all our orders. What fun it is to collect all the great food we've grown. There were plenty of carrots, which meant we got to enjoy them with our lunch. Fresh carrots are sweet and tasty.
We've raised $52 this way... and we have spent it all on the Oxfam Unwrapped website. After much thought, we bought 2 chickens, 3 ducks and a garden package for a family. Our purchases go to families in need in Papua New Guinea.
You can avoid buying socks, chocolates and other annoying presents by buying Oxfam presents on the Oxfam site. People in need get to enjoy some of life's necessities while you feel great about knowing you've spent your money wisely.

Our wonderful Room 12 people were so fantastic in school assembly, that they won Community Bob (a large teddy bear) two weeks in a row! With Community Bob comes 20 minutes of free time. We decided we'd worked so hard in the lead up to Student Led Conferences, that we all deserved a chill out on the new playground. Cobi was our photographer (a rather good one too), and she snapped these photos of Room 12 enjoying free time...
