Living in the Annex

Article posted March 28, 2009 at 03:11 PM GMT • comment • Reads 2034

Can you imagine what it was like living in the Annex?

For 25 months, Anne Frank wrote about  the ups and downs of life in hiding. On July 11, 1942, Anne wrote, "The Annex is an ideal place to hide in. It may be damp and lopsided, but there's probably not a more comfortable hiding place in all of Amsterdam. No, in all of Holland."

Anne stated that she felt "privileged" to be with her family in hiding while others were being hunted. "It's like the slave hunts of the olden days" (Nov. 19, 1942). In fact, the Franks were most unusual in being able to hide together, having resources to buy food, and that so many associates of Mr. Frank were willing to help the Franks and others hiding in the annex.

Imagine you were living for 2 years in the Annex. How would you feel. What things would you miss the most?

Since you just finished learning how to use html programming I thought it was a good time to get you to think about a few things. Please read the questions and then respond to them with your thoughts! I really do read everything and take your opinion into consideration.
1. What did you like or dislike about learning to program?
2. How often do you use web pages on the internet? For School? To connect with friends?
3. What makes a web page valuable to you? How do you like it laid out?
4. Any other thoughts you might like to share.

Obama to Address the Nation Each Week on YouTube
Written by Marshall Kirkpatrick / November 14, 2008 10:28 AM / 10 Comments « Prior Post Next Post »

President elect Obama will bring the President's weekly "fireside chat" into the 21st century by offering it not just on the radio, but in video on YouTube as well. It's as if the new populist President really cares whether the next generation has a connection to what he's doing. That's where the people are - on YouTube, on MySpace and on Facebook.

More people will watch the President's talks than ever before, and they will post video responses. That's pretty remarkable.

The Washington Post covered Obama's plans this morning and reported that a number of other officials in the administration will be posting regular videos as well. We found the story via some light coverage at CNet.

What do you tink of the idea of a weekly You Tube Update from the Commander and Chief?

Summer Thoughts

Article posted June 6, 2008 at 02:18 PM GMT • comment • Reads 861

Okay guys- I know that you have lots of fun things planned for this summer. I also know there will be days you are bored---so Here is my challenge...

Let's take a look at solving the energy crisis. Can we develop a model car that moves without gasoline??? I will give the winner 20 dollars! The car has to move on it's own-no pushing.

Remember to think, reason and apply everything you learned form bridge building and rollercoasters.

An Abundance of Caution

Teen MySpace Pics Get Boyfriend Arrested
This is a headline I read in the Press and is one of those”Told ya so” Moments

This was going to happen: A 17 year old Wisconsin teenager has been arrested for posting -- and refusing to take down – "inappropriate" pictures of his ex-girlfriend on MySpace. She's 16, and took and sent the pictures to him while they were still going out. (Via the Smoking Gun.)

Isn't MySpace supposed to prohibit those types of picture? Should the girlfriend be charged, too -- since sent him the pictures?

By the way the boys name photo and picture were all in the paper. If he is convicted he will have to regester with the police for life.

If you use these sites please use an abundance of caution.

The Real Buzz Light Year!

Article posted May 18, 2008 at 03:15 PM GMT • comment (11) • Reads 469

Playing to a mesmerized audience, Swiss pilot and adventurer (some might say nutcase) Yves Rossy has soared above the Alps with homemade jet-powered wings strapped to his back.

Rossy, an extreme sports guy who has spent years assembling his wings, casually stepped out of an airplane at 7,500 feet, unfolded the wings and quickly passed from free fall to mellow glide. He then fired up the wings' engines and accelerated to more than 180 mph.

As if that weren't cool enough, Rossy showed off a bit, making a few dives, some figure eights and a 360-degree barrel roll before landing at an airfield near Lake Geneva.

"That was to impress the girls," he said after the five-minute flight.

It's not your average DIY project, but then again Rossy doesn't seem to be your average guy. One look at the video proves that.

Fusionman, as the 47-year-old adventurer calls himself, is intimately familiar with flight. As a military pilot he spent years flying Hunter, Tiger F-5 and Mirage III jets, and he flies airliners for Swiss International Airlines.
