I Am From

In class, we had to write " I am from" poems. Now this poem may not make sense to you, but thats not really important.
I am from frozen lakes, from harsh winters. I am from autumn leaves, from maple tree sap glistening on aging bark. I am from maple syrup freshly brewed, poured onto a tray of snow. I am from long paved streets, from cobblestone paths. I am from walking wherever I go, rain or shine. I am from wishing wells, and statues that tell the tale of why they were built. I am from trees bent over with age, supported on metal posts.
I am from children playing in parks left and right. I am from short, cropped grass, from the smell of freshly mown gardens. I am from birds chirping cheerfully at each other, sharing news and joy of the sunny day. I am from ponds filled with lily-pads, and ducks resting on rocks. I am from streams and brooks flowing downhill, catching leaves and twigs as they go. I am from maple leaves glistening with early morning dew, from flowers shaking off their drops. I am from mountains of grass, which I tumble down, gleefully spinning faster and faster, my head getting dizzy.
I am from underground railroads that click and clack along the track. I am from libraries filled with magical worlds, from books loved and worn. I am from seashells that give hints of the sea they once were in. I am from houses built big and small, from apartments, to skyscrapers so tall that I have to lie down to see the top. I am from puffy cotton-ball clouds, from sapphire blue skies. I am from Canada.
Where are you from?

Did You Know?

Did you know..
That popcicles were invented by an 11 year old?
Or if you spent a dollar every second, it would take about 32 years to spend a bilion dollars?
Did you know...
That your ears produce more wax when you're nervous?
Or that ketchup was originally sold as medicine?

Persuasive Letter

In school, our teacher asked us to write a Persuasive Letter on earning a dollar a day by doing chores, and then using the money to buy trees to plant. Do you think it will work?
Dear Mom and Dad:
A week from Friday, January 29th, my class is going on a tree planting trip. I would like to earn a dollar a day by doing chores to produce $7 and help with the reforestation. Here are three reasons why:
First of all, trees are the natural habitat of many animals like birds, and are part of an Eco system. For example, birds are stunning creatures, and without a habitat, they will soon die out. They eat mosquitoes that carry deadly diseases, and help protect us from spiders. Sadly, if we cut down more trees, when the birds migrate, they might consider not coming back. Trees are also the home to a number of insects, like bees! Bees pollinate plants, which give us oxygen and without oxygen, we won’t be able to breathe. Not only that, but bees work hard to produce the honey that most people like with their breakfasts .Animals like squirrels also live in trees and without these cute critters, our Eco system would be out of balance.
Also, trees give us oxygen, which we need to breathe; they also take in CO2 which isn’t fit for us. Humans need fresh air, and with global warming, it is extremely hard to get it. Trees also help the environment, and assist things like erosion. Humans have been relying on farming for years, and without erosion, there will be no fertile soil!
Trees are also an object of use; they give us materials like paper and wood. They are a natural resource, but they are being brutally cut down just to make space for things like highways. Wood is used for a number of things like construction, and our desks at school are made of it. Their pine nuts are a first-rate source of income, and you like to place them on the majority of dishes you make. Mariam likes to paint the pine cones, and you are always saying how you wish there were more trees in Lebanon. So please think about it!
Trees are beautiful things; they give off shade, and many other vital things. I hope you can see the importance of reforestation in Lebanon; and I hope you will let me take part in this activity.
Yours truly,
TT
