The Express response

Article posted March 3, 2009 at 04:28 PM GMT • comment • Reads 2079

After watching the Express some of the messages I noticed were, When Ernie played in the cotton bowl and a big fight broke out on the field even though he was hurt and mad he didn't stoop to their level to fight back. I think that even when I am really mad I will just take a breath and not fight back. Another one was when Ernie did good in football the message here was, just because he was black doesn't mean he isn't good at sports. If I ever become a coach for any sport I will include everybody. Near the end of the movie, Ernie was talking to another boy about how they don't have a label, I thouht this meant just because of their skin color doesn't say anything about whats on the inside. That was my favourite because it is true, I will make sure to be friendly to everyone no matter what they look like because what is in the inside is what counts. A big message was how he was always in it to win, the message was don't give up and he never did even when times got tough he played and did great. This was a ood movie with a lot of messages.

Building Self Confidence

Article posted February 10, 2009 at 03:35 PM GMT • comment • Reads 305

After finishing my success line I think my biggest success would be winning the Peewee Female division at a Weyburn hockey tournament. I learned that if you work really hard at something you can acheive great things. I am the only goalie on my team and I have been taking lots of lessons to become better. This hockey season has been my favourite and to do well during it makes me feel really good. My Dad really encouraged me to do well, he always says "if you want something do everything you can to get it". My hockey team also helped by giving me compliments and good advice that helped me. This was a great success for me and I hope more are headed my way!

Obama's speech reflection

Article posted January 21, 2009 at 07:42 PM GMT • comment • Reads 410

After watching President Obama's speech some of the things that stood out to me was when he said "God's given promise that all should be equal and all should be free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness." This meant a lot to me because it is very true, nobody deserves to feel ashamed of who they are. Also, when he said "We are in the middle of crisis", this is also true. There are things in the world that need fixing and I think Obama can help fix them. I agree that we all can help building a united world. We all have different things we need to do to keep this world in peace. To help this world stay a better place I can make sure I judge people by who they are not by what they look like. Also, being kind to everyone is an important thing too. If the people in the world were kind to everyone, there would be no more wars, fights or racism. As the new President of the U.S.A Barrak Obama said "We will extend a hand if you are prepared to unclench your fist."

I Have a Dream Response

Article posted January 19, 2009 at 08:07 PM GMT • comment • Reads 333

I think Martin's message was that Black people shouldn't have to be ashamed about who they are. He didn't want to turn it into a fight, he just wanted to have freedom. Nobody should have to endure pain and torture just because of their color. I think he gave Black people courage all over to stand up for what is right. His speech touched the hearts of many and I think that is why his name went down in history. It has affected the world because his speech said that Black people are the same as us on the inside. I hope that soon Black people are all treated as equals.

COUGARS VICTORIOUS!!!!!

Article posted January 15, 2009 at 05:40 PM GMT • comment • Reads 322

20 seconds left until the final buzzer...the Regina Cougars and the Manitoba Bisons were tied 2-2. The puck was droped and BAM! Addie Miles scored leaving the Cougars with another victory! My article headline is, "Cougars Give Bisons a Good Fight." This great article is about the University of Regina womens' hockey team and how they beat the Manitoba Bisons. My article is about how the Cougars' season is going and how they beat a good team. The game was played in the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre. The game took took place on Saturday, January 11th. I chose this article because I like the Cougars and their win reminded me of my hockey teams winning streak. I hope the wins continue for the Cougars and I hope their season ends well.

Hey guys have you ever heard of the Regina Pats? Well of course you have they are the best hockey team in the WHL! The title of this newspaper article is "Pat's Veterans Know They Need to Step Up." This article is ALL about the Regina Pats. The article is about how the Regina Pats need to step up their game. The Pats had a horrible game losing to the Saskatoon Blades 8-1. This article took place on October, 20th. I thought this article was a good one because I play hockey and I know how it feels to lose badly in a game. I think this article was good because the Pats do need to step it up and win their next game.

I think that this object is a hole punch, because it cuts things and it also looks like our hole punch in the classroom. It also is as heavy as a full binder.

Treaty Four

Article posted September 26, 2008 at 05:27 PM GMT • comment • Reads 414

Hey Guys,
last Thursday my class and I went to Fort Qu Appelle to celebrate Treaty Four. The bus ride was long but fun. I sat with HannahM5 and Miley, I also talked with Mearky Ferky and Mrs. Markwart.
The first thing we did was go to a tent where we did lots of activities about healthy choices. The first one my group did was called Wheel of Health, it was basically pictionary. After that we went to a bubble blowing station, we had a contest to see who could blow the biggest bubble, I lost. Next, we did a ball throw station where you had to answer some questions.
We then went to a tipi to listen to a women named Star tell us about her life story, she also sang us some songs. Her life was very depressing as she was growing up, but now it has gotten better as she has been nominated for a couple of Juno awards. The main message of her story was follow your dreams. I thought she was a very inspiring to listen to.
The next thing we did was, go sit in the bleachers and watch some dancing. The first dance was a round dance, I didn't join in because my ankle really hurt. The next dancer was a hoop dancer. He was really cool, he made lots of different animal shapes with the hoops.
After lunch we went to another station, this one was about Elk Meat. I was hard to understand the man because he talked really quietly.
Next, was the D.N.A station we made braclets with our name spelt in D.N.A code colors with beads.
Then came the bus ride home, everyone was pretty tired. I listened to Mas's iPod and I talked and sat with Mrs. Markwart. We got back to school and went home for the day. Wow that was a very fun day I learned a lot!!!
Talk to you later:

Big Honking Fish

Article posted September 5, 2008 at 08:27 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 367

Hey Everybody.... Do you know what's in the news???? Well this particular article is about Rod Toth and his crew. They were out on a fishing trip on the coast of Vancouver. Who would have thought a tiny piece of salmon would catch a 318 kilogram monster? The fish was 3.2 meters long and 1.4 meters thick. Rod thinks the fish was between 70 and 80 years old. This sure seems like the biggest fish I have ever seen but it's not actually the biggest. They grow to 6 meters in length and get to 600 kilograms. WOW Thats a big fish! This article takes place on Tuesday, September 2nd 2008. It took place in Fraser river near Chiliwack B.C. I chose think article because I really hate fish and this creeped me out! I always went fishing with my Grandpa and so this kind of relates to me. We always had contests to see who could catch the biggest fish.

That's all for now!!!!

Misa my Japanese friend

Article posted September 3, 2008 at 04:33 PM GMT • comment • Reads 294

Have you ever met a kid from Japan?? Well I have and this is how it happend. My brother got selected for a Regina-Fujioka student exchange. So 25 Japanese students came to Regina for ten days.
Our student was named Misa. She was the nicest person I have ever met. She could speak pretty good english and she ate everything we put on her plate (even when it was 20 minute over cooked garlic toast.)
I met two other Japanese friends their names are Taka and Miharu. Miharu is Misa's best buddy and Taka is Ben's best friend's exchange student.
Everyday my brother and our student went on acivities all over South Saskatchewan. I was at home most of the time but there were two family days where we could take her wherever we wanted and one other family day we went to Sherwood forest with all of the students and their families. I think this was the most amazing part of my summer and I loved it!!

Keeping The Planet Green

Article posted June 3, 2008 at 12:52 AM GMT • comment • Reads 662

This article is about Sheri Florizone trying to make people in Regina "Go Green". She is saying that it is easy to go green but nobody's making the effort. Some people have started to help, like some students at the U of R have made a website called carpool.com which has promoted the use carpooling more often. Sheri has made a weekly radio station program called "The Green Report". She also does a half an hour T.V program which has the same name. She also sends out a newsletter telling people how to take care of our enviroment. This article takes place in Regina Saskatchewan and was written on May. 20th. I chose this article because I think we all need to "Go Green" just like Sheri. I like to take care of the enviroment that is my connection to this article, I think everyone should take part in keeping our planet green.

Earth Poem

Article posted April 30, 2008 at 06:33 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 421

The air smells like the trees, and plants on the ground.
I can hear birds and bugs flying around.
I can see big trees with bright green leaves.
This place makes me feel relaxed and free.
I love this place, it is far away from traffic, big buildings and pollution.
I see places like this when I go camping.
In six months from now the leaves will turn red and orange, it will become chilly with Autumn's wind.
I can come across a place like this in valleys, or forests in B.C.

Jump Into Spring!

Article posted April 29, 2008 at 09:49 PM GMT • comment • Reads 387

SPRING IS HERE!
The thing I'm most looking forward to this spring is being able to wear a T-shirt and not a toque. I'm also looking forward to the rainy days when I can go splashing in puddles.

In Spring I can smell damp grass and plants from the rain. I will see flowers starting to bloom. I will also see lots of dog hair as my dog starts to shed. I can hear the rolling of wheels as bikes go down my street. I can also hear the thump of my basketball as I play outside.

The activity I'm looking forward to most is soccer, I can't wait to play against HannahM5! I also can't wait to go biking around my city it will be so much fun!

Two facts about my school and community are:

I have a very small school it only has about 160 kids. There are lots of parks around our area so it's lots of fun. My one question to you is, What is it like having a differnt teacher for every subject?

Math Digital Story Response

Article posted April 4, 2008 at 06:00 AM GMT • comment • Reads 346

My digital story was on adding fractions. I think the digital stories helped me understand the different steps. I struggled on figuring out if we were suposed to find the LCM or the GCF. My group helped each other out and we figured it out. Because it's LCM when you want to make the bottoms the same and GCF when you want to make it simplest form. I think the stories helped us figure that out. I also think the digital stories were very fun to do. I think we should do them again.

basketball mania

Article posted March 6, 2008 at 02:08 PM GMT • comment • Reads 336

Hi, this is baker with a new current event. Today my article is called "BLUES FIND REDEMPTION". It is about the Scott Blues and the Notre Dame Hounds basketball teams, and how they are winning their games. The Scott Blues won the Regina intercollegiate basketball league. They were very happy as they got silver last year and this year improved with a gold. In the jouner boys small school championships they beat Lumsden with 6 three pointers giving them 18 out of their 22 points.
A little bit earlier the Notre Dame Hounds defeated the Miller Marauders 68-51. They are extremely happy because last season their stats were 2-11 where as this season the great improvement has lead them to 10-2! This article takes place on March.5th at the Regina Kinesiology building. I chose this article because I really like basketball. I think it was also very neat to read about all the different types of leagues and tournaments. I was on the basketball team at my school and that is how this article relates to me.
Stay tuned for a new current event next week.

1. Why do you feel it is important to fundraise for Telemiracle?

I think it is important to fundraise because people that are signed up for Telemiracle really need our help to function in the world.

2. What impact do you think it has on the individuals that are on the receiving end of Telemiracle?

It would make them happy to know people care about how they are struggling.

The wind flys through my hair phoo phoo by now you probably think i'm skating super fast with a lot of power but the truth is i'm not. My New Years Resolution is to work on my power skating. I need to work on my skating because it will help me become a better hockey player! But the thing is I don't like to skate too much because I get so tired. I'm going to fix this problem by going out to the outdoor rinks for a couple of hours and just work on going hard. I think this will help because I will get used to going fast and not getting tired. I will do this 2 times a week till the end of my hockey season.I really wan't to become a better skater because I want to become the best female hockey player ever, and I need to skate good to do that.

Ever since the start of grade 6 my spelling level has gone down the drain. Spelling is my New Years Resolution! Last year I got 100% on every test! On the first big spelling test of this year I got way way lower! I think my marks have dropped because I don`t study as much. I want to fix this because spelling should be an easier. From January to June I will study every night for about 15 minuites. If I can't study one night, I will study that morning and at lunch. I will also focus more on the words around me. All in all I really need to pick up my marks, I think this resolution will really help me in spelling!
