In my opinion...

What a Class!
Our 5th grade eMINTS classroom is taking the risk to share our thoughts and opinions online instead of paper to save a few trees. We enjoyed making up new names for ourselves. Please be aware that all blogs and comments are sent to me for approval and possibly filtered before being published.

A Visit From Reptiles

Article posted September 26, 2008 at 04:35 PM GMT0 • comment (17) • Reads 40659

Last Tuesday, Bruce Schwedick came to Bueker to share some of his reptile collection with the 5th grade. He brought his Yellow-footed tortoise, four foot long rhinoceros iguana, six foot long anaconda, and "Banana Boy" his 16 foot long albino python. Share your thoughts, opinions, reflections, or comments by sending a comment to my blog.

Blog Corrections

Article posted September 24, 2008 at 02:11 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 1066

Now that you are really getting into sending blogs, you need to be a little careful. Some problems I discovered while checking your blogs are as follows:

1. Make sure you don't put personal information.

2. Titles need to be capitalized except for unimportant words, but always the first and last word in a title.

3. Don't use IM shortcuts.

4. Reread your blog before you ask me to publish it to see if it makes sense.

5. Keep sending those blogs.

Welcome new 5th graders to blogging. We have had a short introduction to blogging. We will be spending more time discussing what kinds of blogs you will be writing. For now, you may blog about anything. Feel free to send blogs from home.

End of the Year Topics

Article posted May 19, 2008 at 09:32 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 26364

The end is near! There are one and a half days left of school. Choose something we have done recently to blog about in the next couple of days. For those of you with computers at home you may continue to send blogs. I will try to read and publish them over the summer. Make sure to explain what each topic is before you make a personal comment about it. The following are suggestions.
1. Field Trip to see the play about Ellis Island
2. Dogpatch
3. Field Day
4. Awards Assembly
5. Talent Show
6. Chaos Day
7. Bueker Records Day

MAP Testing

Article posted April 16, 2008 at 03:27 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 3871

Well, it's that time of year again; three weeks of MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) testing. We spend three mornings a week working on each part of the test. We have already finished taking the Communication Arts part last week. This week we are taking the Science portion and next week will be the Math portion. There has been a lot of writing involved. What are your opinions about MAP testing? Do you like some parts better than others? Why do you think that? What about other states and their assessments? Should the whole country be required to take the same test or is it better the way it is now? What about the students who move from one state to another, how do you think testing affects them?

Busy, Busy, Busy

Article posted March 17, 2008 at 09:32 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 430

I've been so busy trying to check everyone's blog that I haven't had time to blog for myself. I'm impressed with some of the creativity I've seen but we've talked about cleaning up some of the graphic descriptions. We really don't need anymore blood, guts, violence, or anything that has to do with other bodily functions. I'd really like to publish some of the other blogs, but they really aren't appropriate for school. If you can fix them I'll take another look at publishing them.
Also we have been talking about capitalization in titles. Your blogs have titles and capitalization rules still apply. Don't forget!

Snow Days

Article posted December 13, 2007 at 05:44 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 418

We have just returned from having our first two snow days this school year. I hope they will be our last. I don't mind having one or two days off, but I don't like having to make up the days when it starts getting warmer. I graded a lot of papers, spent time catching up on things on the computer, cleaned house, and finally got my Christmas tree set up.
What did you do while we were off? Do you like having snow days? Would you rather get out of school earlier in the spring?

Welcome Back!

Article posted November 26, 2007 at 04:19 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 419

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Break. Let us know what you've been doing for the past four days. I spent my time with my husband's family on Thanksgiving Day. We got to see two of his nephews and their families that we haven't seen in awhile. One is living in Arizona and the other in Las Vegas. Thursday afternoon we left for Springfield, MO to visit my brother's family. I also spent the weekend watching the Chiefs lose, and MU win. I worked on getting caught up on grading papers, too. Remember progress reports will be sent home this Friday.

Let's Get Started!

Article posted November 11, 2007 at 10:37 PM GMT0 • comment (20) • Reads 352

Welcome, 07-08 class, to blogging. Before you get started you will need to pick a pseudonym (fake name) and a password. Keep your password secret and only tell me. We haven't had time to get started earlier so now is the time to put to use everything you have learned so far. I hope to see lots of good writing while expressing your opinions, sharing your thoughts, and responding to others. Let's get started with posting comments. Follow the directions I give you in class and comment to this article. What do you think about being able to blog?

Just wanted to let everyone know that Friday, May 18 is our last day of school. Students that have computers available may continue to blog as I will check them this summer. We appreciate all the people who have visited our blogs this year. You have been an awesome class. Keep up the good work!
