Welcome to the 2007 Summer Institute of the South Central Kansas Writing Project. We are trying something new this year in that we have two separate locations for participants. One location is Prairie Hills Middle School in the Buhler school district and the other is at East High School in the Wichita school district. The participants from both locations will be able to share their writing through this blog, the wiki (sckwp.wikispaces.com) and posting to eAnthology. Have a great time, and remember to give yourself a break to avoid those pesky hand cramps.

I am working hard here in Chico, CA learning lots about utilizing technology tools into the writing process. Here is a link to some photos that I've taken. Some were taken during our worktime and most were taken during our evening time together.
I am looking forward to sharing with you all next week.

Thanks to the field trip and food committees for the celebration at Botanica on our final day of the summer institute. The setting was inspirational and relaxing. My hats off to the anthology committee for a suberb anthology. Of course, thanks to all the writers for their contributions so that we had content. Don't forget to take your "I am a writer" certificates to school and display them in your classroom. Grades are posted on SOS. Finally, enjoy some downtime before school starts.

As Jeff so eloquently lectured, we have hit the climax of the summer institute. The evidence of this element is witnessed by the stack of research papers on the instructors' table and the breadth and depth of the writing from this morning's prompt. We do seem a little more laid back now that all of the serious writing assignments have been word processed and transfered from students' hands to instructor's folder.

What a day we had in the SCKWP Summer Institute. After an exciting morning of thought provoking activities and writing we ventured downtown to the Saigon Restaurant. The food was delicious. Kayla called that one! Un-huh, Un-huh, I like it! We scattered during the afternoon to do various things but the evening was choke full of entertainment. Out of this world glass creations were admired at the Karg Art Glass Works and the family style dinner at the Creek Station Restaurant was very pleasant, even though the temperature was a bit sticky. Then came the farce, "Cash on Delivery" at the Kechi Playhouse. I had some healthy belly laughs. Oh my! How did they ever keep all of those lies straight? Well they didn't and that is the point.
Why didn't Dennis and Jeff plan a later start in the morning? Shhh! We just didn't think about it.

The Augusta Experience

On July 15, 2005 our summer institute traveled east to Augusta and stepped back in time at the Augusta Theatre and the Museum and Log Cabin. The cabin, built in 1868, opened our eyes to some of the challenges we would encounter if we lived during that era. Field trips can often present the unexpected. It seems that our lime green "I am a writer!" shirts quickly attracted attention and we were photographed and briefly interviewed by the town's newspaper. The excursion ended with a pleasant lunch at Playa Azul Restaurant. Dennis and Jeff are looking forward to the stories to be shared at the institute on Monday. What's that Kayla? Who is Rob and Keith ? I don't know. Perhaps they inhabit the theatre or the second floor of the Log Cabin.

My Classes & Students

About the Blogger
This course will allow teachers to practice their writing skills in order to become better writing teachers. This Blog will be the primary tool used to share and critique our class writing. We will also share ideas and brainstorm together here. Think of this Blog as the writing notebook that you carry around jotting down ideas, thoughts, words, etc. The benefit of quick feedback from your classmates will allow your ideas to snowball.
WE ARE WRITERS!
