A Rock Story:A Story Of A Rock That Turned Out To Be Famous It was a hot afternoon at the Carrara Quarry. Hundreds of workers dug into the earth and scooped up loads of marble. The rock was to be carried away to Florence, Italy. Tuscany was sixty miles southeast of Florence, where the marble was to be carved into Michelangelo’s latest statue, Medici Madonna.

Now, one little chunk of marble was very excited. It couldn’t wait to be shaped into a beautiful carving for everyone to see. When the ox-drawn cart was finally ready to go, it started up and bumped down the road. As the truck bounced along, the Carrara Quarry waved goodbye. Then, Florence said hello to its new marble!!

Soon, the beautiful marble was loaded off the wagon at Michelangelo’s studio. The rocks got put on a little cart down to the place where Michelangelo carved his magnificent statues. Finally, after hours of labor, the exquisite marble was done. It stood in the Medici Chapel. The statue was ready to be admired by everyone. The pure white marble was shaped into a woman holding a baby. It was very beautiful.

That marble was marble that had been through so many things. It had started out as little, broken apart rocks. Then, it turned into limestone. Then, after intense heat and compression, it turned into to marble. It turned into the beautiful marble that was carved into Medici Madonna. Now that is the story of a chapter in the life of a rock.
