By now, we have met all of the main characters from The Weirdo. Think about one of these characters. How would you describe this character to someone who has not read the book? Describe this character and try to include information about appearance, family relationships, friends, personality, behavior, likes and dislikes.

Great blogs last time. Judging from the comments, most of you feel that swamps can either be a thing of beauty or the nastiest place on earth. I also noticed that at least one of you feels very strongly about hunter's rights. Hmmm, I wonder how that will come up in the novel. I also noticed two of you agreed that you can't fight city hall. I wonder, will Sam and Chip have to fight that battle? Will they win if they do?? I guess we'll have to keep reading.
Speaking of the swamp, however, I wonder how I would survive if I had to spend the night in a swamp in a dead tree stump. Can you? Explore this issue by describing a dream Sam might have had when she was sleeping in the tree stump. Incorporate events from the previous day, fears she may have, plus sounds and sensations she might have heard or felt.

As we leave our hero Odysseus and his lovely wife, Penelope, living happily ever after on Ithaca, let us remember the lessons learned from The Odyssey. Heroes often fail because they do not accept their limitations or help from others. Our literary journey continues with our first novel, The Weirdo. To begin choose one of the following statements and discuss whether you agree or disagree and why.
1. No one has the right to interfere with a hunter's right to hunt.
2. Having a disability makes a person stronger.
3. Swamps are ugly, dismal, scary places.
4. "You can't fight City Hall."

The epic hero is the central charater of an epic. He possesses qualities superior to most men, yet he makes the same human mistakes. In looking at part one of The Odyssey, discuss how Odysseus is different and similar from ordinary men. Also, give your opinion of Odysseus. Do you like and respect him? Explain why or why not.

All through The Odyssey, we have seen how the Greeks viewed the gods. One of the characteristics of an epic is how the hero must obey the gods. With this in mind, explain the implications of the phrase, "and the god heard him," as it appears on page 661 in line 494. Also, predict what consequences might appear as a result of this situation.
