It was fun demonstrating how mould fossils are formed. The students used shells and plants to press into Plaster of Paris. Overnight the plaster dried leaving "fossilized" imprints. Read our blogs to find out more...

Our students experimented with different minerals (table salt, epsom salts, and washing soda) to make crystals. They had fun measuring, stirring, dissolving, creating, pouring and waiting!! Please read our blogs to see what we learned.

The idea of 'area" can be difficult for kids to grasp. This week, the students made a square meter out of newpaper and used it to estimate the area of different rooms around the school. They quickly learned that they could measure along 2 walls and multiply to find the area. Some of them used a large footstep to measure a meter along the wall while others used their armspan. Our class had fun visiting with the seniors from Prairie Villa and making valentines with them. It was a great opportunity to meet some of the important founders of our great province and learn from them. We appreciated the time they took to be with us...and of course the snacks!

As part of our Social Studies unit on Saskatchewan Heritage, we learned about the Native Hoop Dance. The circle is an important cultural symbol for the First Nations peoples and the hoop dance represents their strong connections to nature. Fables were written over 2000 years ago by a Greek slave named Aesop. He was keen observer of animals and loved to make up stories about them. His stories always taught a lesson or maoral about the way we should live our lives and treat others. Our class read many of Aesop's popular Fables and thought about how the morals can be still applied to our lives today. The students wrote about how their favorite fable teaches them an important lesson in their own life.
