 Iditarod Week #1 · Balto was a Siberian sled dog, which led his team in the 1925 serum run to Nome. There is a sculpture of Balto in New York City. There is an inscription on the statue that says “Dedicated to the indomitable spirit of the sled dogs that relayed antitoxin 660 miles over rough ice, across treacherous waters, through Arctic blizzards from Nenana to the relief of stricken Nome in the Winter of 1925.
