We are the student writers of Bancroft School. By expressing our own opinions though writing, our aim is to become not just consumers but producers of knowledge online.

This blog has closed for the year 07-08.
Currently(08-09), I am assisting a 4th grade class with their first blog on Blogmeister located at www.classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=219386. Their classroom teacher is Ms. Eaton and this is her first foray into blogging. Come check us out. We are just getting started. We are also looking to use our blog this year as part "Portfolio".

Your year in Grade 4 is quickly coming to a close. This coming September you'll be entering 5th grade, your final year at our school. Now that you'll be the eldest class, this year will bring many new responsibilities and opportunites.
1. What will you miss about your year in 4th grade? Why?
2. What are you looking forward to next year in 5th grade? Why?
3. What are your plans for summer?

More and more each year we are being asked to reduce, reuse and recycle. It’s becoming increasingly clear how limited our resources are and how expensive they continue to become. You have only to look at the price of food, gas, and home heating to see that things are changing. We hear it at home and school to reduce, reuse and recycle. Yet, what are YOU specifically doing to reduce your “green footprint” on this planet. Are you recycling your paper and plastic products? Have you turned the heat down a degree at home this winter or up a degree last summer? Are you carpooling to school with neighbors? The aim of this month’s assignment is to motivate you a little more in this area. Watch the following videos and let’s discuss. (Ecological Footprint)
1. Name something you have done during this school year (at school or at home) to help save energy. (save resources) Tell us what it was and how it helps.
2. We already recycle paper, plastic bottles and cans at school. How else could we reduce our “green footprint” at school? Or, how could we make our current programs more successful?
3. If you (or your family)could do one more thing at home to help reduce your green footprint (even a little), what might that be and why?
*** If you and your family actually try #3 at home this month, please add that note on to your blog response at a later time this month.

What does a Cyberbully look like? Well, they probably look just like you and me, but it's what they say online that makes it easier to identify them.
The Internet is a great tool. It places the world at our fingertips. It enables you to find information about your own town or talk to someone half way across the world. What you do with it is up to you.
Are you a responsible "cyber-citizen"? Do you treat all people with respect, whether you're talking to them face to face or online? Do you carefully consider what you type before you click the SEND button? The web provides each of us with a stage on which we conduct ourselves.
Watch this brief video and then reflect on and answer the questions that follow.
1. How did this video clip make you feel?
Why do you think you feel that way?
2. What did you see in the faces of the children in the audience?
Why do you think that was?
3. This commercial wasn't about emailing, "chatting" or instant messaging behavior ........or was it???
Why do you think they filmed it on a "stage" setting??

All of us have come across books that we just can't put down once we start them. For one reason or another the story draws you in and makes you feel part of the action. Bridge to Terabithia was one such story for me. How about you?
1. Think of a story you enjoyed reading over the last year. What was it about that story that caught your attention and made you want to keep reading? Include examples to support your choice.
2. Suppose you could place yourself in that story as one of the characters. Who would that be and why? Make sure you support your choice by referring to the story.

iPods and similar MP3 players have become tools of everyday use for millions of adults and children across this country. Yet, you don't often hear of them being used in school.
Check out this video detailing one successful use of iPods in school and then comment on the following three statements using your blog. (Label your answers)
1. Tell me how the Apple iPod was used to help the students of this school.
2. List at least 1 advantage & 1 disadvantage of owning an iPod or other MP3 player.
3. How else could you use an iPod for learning? (in or outside of school)
