After Halloween the children were interested in learning and exploring pumpkins. Since there were pumpkin in our classroom we decided to explore them. After a few days of exploring and playing we noticed that some of the pumpkins were rotting. We learnt so much about pumpkins, decay and mold.

We showed great confidence in trying new experiences. We also played very well together using shared spaces. We used lots of language, using words such as squishy, disgusting, gooey.

We talked about measurement, with the seeds being little, or big. We talked about water, dehydration and the decay process. What a great way to learn!

We were Scientists in Pre-Kindergarten. We watched the effect that baking soda has on vinegar. We watched the reactions take place, and were very excited. We also used food coloring to give color to our reactions. IT was a great science experiment!

Today we learnt about reversible change. We put a strawberry in water, and put it into the freezer. We then hypothesized about what would happen to the strawberry. After a few moments we checked the freezer and the strawberries and water were frozen. We then had to problem solvea way to get the strawberry out of the ice. We tried to come up with different way to change the ice back into water. We tried blowing on the ice, licking it, taking it to a heater, holding it tight, breaking and smashing it. Noneof this was working, until finally we decided that hot water might melt the ice. We ran our strawberry under water and it melted. We finally got to eat our strawberry! What a yummy way to learn about reversible change!

Today we did a science experiment with colors. We introduced the three primary colors which are red, blue and yellow. We then made predictions of what would happen if we mixed them together. We mixed red and blue to make purple, red and yellow to make orange and blue and yellow to make green. We introduced these colors as secondary colors. During discovery time we got to explore the colors and make new colors. We even figured out how to make black, and rootbeer (which is brown). It was so much fun discovering our colors.

This project all started with one box. We discussed what we should make out of this box. It was decided that we make a castle. The students decided what our castle needed. Some things we made are a draw bridge, secret tunnel, peep holes, a dungeon and windows. We looked at many castle books, and talked about kings, queens, princesses, princes, knights and jestors. It has been an amazing experience and have learnt many things! We love our castle!

We talked about the different textures of food as it gets older, and also the mold that grows on different foods. We examined what mold looks like, and got to feel the mushypumpkin and apples. When we were done exploring and discovering we represented our learning through drawing what we saw.

After it dried we painted it orange and put a pumpkin face on it. On the day of our celebration we got to hit the pinatas and Halloween candy came out! We had so much fun making our pinata!
