Happy Snow Day! I guess Friday the 13th is a lucky day for us. I know I was surprised to find out we had a snow day today. I was already awake and ready for school. I went into school to feed the animals and make sure they had what they needed for the long weekend. Be sure to take care of them first thing Tuesday morning. I may or may not be there, because I may actually be getting the new house....finally!
What do you plan to do on this snowy day? Do you have any special plans for the long weekend?

Happy Snow Day!
I hope that you all enjoy your day off from school. The groundhog did not see his shadow today, which means spring is near! Check out some pictures and interesting facts about Groundhog's Day at www.groundhog.org/. There are some "Fun Facts" and "FAQ" (frequently asked questions) under the tabs at the top that I think you'll find interesting! Read them and leave a comment here if you'd like!
Also, we will be having our SS test on Monday. You will get a review sheet tomorrow, but if you have time today, you can play the review games that are under "Related Links" to the left.

Hello!
Soon, we will be learning how to communicate using the class blog. It's an exciting way to communicate with your classmates outside of school.
As you have tomorrow off, be sure to take a moment to remember those who have served our country in times of war and in peace. Without them, we would not have the freedoms we have today. Thank you to all of our veterans!
Check back soon for some picture slideshows!

Hello Everyone,
I've been working really hard on getting the slideshows together. I completed the ones for the Track Meet, Bowling, our Class Birthday, and the individual pictures for 5th Grade Graduation. It takes a long time to put them together! The slideshows are below. Please spread the word to any students that you can. Remember when checking the blog, if you look on the left hand side, it tells you the most recent activity so you know what's been going on. I will complete the rest of the graduation slideshow when I return from my vacation. Also, I probably won't do much updating on the blog while I'm gone. I will return on 7/13, so look for the pictures after that date! Enjoy the summer!

Most of your glogs are now posted. Remember, when you see the small thumbnail version of your glog on your blog page, you can right click on it and choose "full screen" view to make it larger. Be sure to share your glogs with your friends and family. You've worked so hard and now they're finally published! Even your far away relatives and friends can check them out!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I began posting some of your glogs that you sent to me. They look fantastic! I noticed that most of you didn't crop out the side and top toolbars of the google page, so I stopped putting them up after Nadine's. I'll show you how to do this on Monday and then you can upload your map again. It'll only take a minute. Your hard work has paid off....you are almost done. I'm really looking forward to your presentations!

It looks like many of you are listening to your classmates' stories and have had some good things to say about them. It's great to be able to publish your finished writing in a place where you can share it with your classmates, your friends and family at home, and the whole world! We will publish our state reports in the same way when they're complete. I'm looking forward to hearing your presentations!

Jessie's mom is counting on her to be brave in order to help the children of Clifton Village. Imagine that your parents told you that it is actually the year 2160 instead of 2010 which is the life you are used to living. What things do you think might be different? How would you feel?

Wow! You guys were certainly busy over Easter weekend! I'd like you to select one of the small moment ideas from your Easter weekend. Write a personal narrative about that small moment. Remember that you can open your story with a setting description, action, or dialogue. Keep the story "zoomed in" to a small topic that takes place over a short period of time. Include details so we can picture the story in our minds (5ws and 5 senses). Use dialogue to make it more like real life. Remember the other strategies we've used including: raindrop the setting, freeze the action, and word choice/sentence variety. Check back for my personal narrative about Easter!

Well....there certainly have been a lot of upsets this weekend in the NCAA tournament! I should have reminded you all to bring your brackets home and watch to see how your teams were doing. In math on Monday, I'll give you the results and we'll see who has the highest percentage of winning teams. What games surprised you?

Hello Everyone!
I hope you are enjoying your break from school. I went to Washington DC for a few days over the break and saw Syracuse beat Georgetown in a VERY exciting game! The photo slideshows are finally here from the Cross Country Meet, Halloween, and the Gingerbread Houses. Winter Olympics will be coming soon! If you scroll down the page even further, you will see all of the Grammar Rock Videos from School House Rock. On Monday when we return, we will be welcoming a new student to our class! His name is Casey and he went to school in California before coming here. Be thinking of some things you'd like to share with him about McNamara!

I hope you are all enjoying your break from school! Check back soon for some pictures of our gingerbread houses. When we return to school, we'll continue learning about fractions in math and learn about more body systems in science. We'll continue to make connections while reading and begin reading Bud, Not Buddy. Don't forget...your Bridge to Terabithia scrapbooks are due on Monday, January 11th!

I hope everyone is enjoying their week off. I sure am! I've been doing lots of work around my house. If the weather stays nice, I'm going to paint the trim on my house this week. I'm excited about returning to school and hearing your presentations on your states that you've researched. You have all worked really hard and your glogs are looking great. I can't wait to hear about all that you have learned! Three states that I know the least about are probably North Dakota, Arkansas, and Alabama. Which three do you know the least about? I'm looking forward to learning some new information about all of the states!

Over the next few weeks we’ll be learning lots of new and exciting things! We’ll be learning how to add and subtract negative numbers and we’ll working with fractions …again! This time however, we’ll be learning how to multiply fractions. March is National Nutrition Month and we’ll be learning about ways to eat healthier in science. During reading, we will be finishing Bud, Not Buddy and continue to read stories from the green reading book. As always, we’ll focus on good reading strategies and making connections. Our state research will take up most of our writing time and library classes. You’ll be creating your own glog page that will contain uploaded images, a google map, a powerpoint presentation, and your report! I’m looking forward to hearing your presentations on what you’ve learned! What are you looking forward to learning about most and why?

Three Things You Must Know About Me...
We'll work on posting to this article on Wednesday. Please don't comment yet.
We know each other pretty well inside the classroom. However, there are so many things to learn about people! Maybe you have a favorite stuffed animal, or a food that just absolutely disgusts you. Perhaps you have a silly nickname or have earned a fabulous award! Come up with three things that everyone should know about you....but might not yet.
