After receiving several e-mails from students this summer, I can finally answer some of the questions.
1. I am NOT laid off.
2. I am NOT teaching technology at another school.
3. I am NOT an alien.
4. I AM teaching 7th grade social studies at the middle school.
Alright, so I nobody asked me if I was an alien, but I did receive some pretty outrageous e-mails from some concerned students. So there it is...if I had you in class two years ago, I'll have you again this year for social studies. If I had you last year, I'll be in the middle school with you too...so stop by and say "hey".
I hope everyone has a great rest of the summer. See you soon!

Hey kiddies,
A few students and I are reading the book Chocolate Fever by Robert kimmel Smith. I know...it's summer, but we're still reading. If you would like to join us then feel free to respond to the questions below.
Chapter 6
Why would police be after Henry? He didn't brake a law or did he?
Would you want the police to capture someone with an unknown disease? Why or why not?
Chapter 7
What other books have you read that deal with bullies? I can think of one by Jerry Spinelli. It involves a bully taking a boy's giraffe hat. Can you figure out which book it is? (Hint: Google could probably help you with this).
Chapter 8
What do Mac and Henry have in common?
Compare Mac's struggles with color to Rosa Parks' struggles. What the same, what's different?

Hello members of Fowlerville!
I am still here...Ididn't forget about you, but I have been very busy this summer. Between getting the baby's room ready and taking a college class I haven't had much time for blogging....that's bad, I know. Anyhow, a few announcements for ya:
1. It's a boy! my wife and I found out early this summer that we will have a boy...thanks to Tori for reminding me to tell you guys.
2. Your blogs will be saved. I have figured out how to "turn off" your blogs, which will be done at the end of the summer. You will not be able to add articles, but you'll still have access to the content. More information coming on how to access your blog when the next school year starts.
3. Has anyone noticed that snazy new "graphical feature" that is available for writing articles? Check it out, the next time you write an article, look in the right hand corner (above the different size letter "A's") and click on the word "graphical" next to the word "text." You will have a great new feature that lets you add pictures and customize your articles without using HTML editors.
Other than that, what have you guys been up to? Tori is in her new house, Zach got a sweet new quad, Emily has been camping, Trevor B. is hooping it up and writing Natruto stories. What else?????

I just read the following on foxnews.com. It's an article about a family in New Jersey that is suing a baseball bat company for making metal baseball bats too dangerous. The family's son was left disabled after being hit with a line drive off of the company's bat.
Questions to consider when reading:
1. Is this the bat company's fault?
2. Should the company be sued?
3. How would you feel or who would you blame (if anyone) if you were the boy's family?
4. Have any other companies been sued over dangerous equipment?
5. What about the league or umpires that approved the use of the bat during the game? What is their responsibility?
Here is the article:
WAYNE, N.J. — A New Jersey couple, whose son was struck in the chest with a line drive, is planning to sue the maker of a metal baseball bat used in the game.
Two years ago, Steven Domalewski was pitching when the ball slammed into his chest and stopped his heart. He was resuscitated but now has brain damage and is severely disabled.
The family contends metal baseball bats are inherently unsafe for youth games because the ball comes off them much faster than from wooden bats. The lawsuit will also be filed against Little League Baseball and a sporting goods chain that sold the bat.
An attorney says Domalewski will need millions of dollars worth of medical care for the rest of his life.
The bat maker says while it sympathizes with Steven and his family, the bat is not to blame for the injury.

Who doesn’t love a good superhero? Flying through the air, moving large objects, traveling through time… I’d love to do any of these things. My question for you today is:
If you could be any superhero, what would your powers be, what would your costume look like, and what would your name be?
I would be Geekman. It would go something like this…
Able to blog or Podcast at any moment, Geekman helps the world one computer problem at a time. With his patented side-holstered laptop that always has internet access, Geekman can fight cyber-crime and real crime (I could throw the laptop at a robber…it’s indestructible) day or night. He is a mild-mannered teacher by day, but by night nobody can miss the Green and White sweat suit or the Mac-Book Air Mobile… it can only mean one thing…Geekman is on his way!
Wow I am really geeky!

For today (April 24th), I would like for you to find a classmate's poem and leave a graded comment. You can access the graded comment rubric under the "Assignments Tab" on the left hand side of the screen.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO PUT "GRADED COMMENT" AS THE TITLE!!!
Remember to check spelling, this is one major area that kids get marked down on!!!
Example (based on Zach's "Spartans" Acrostic Poem)
GRADED COMMENT
Zach,
Nice job on your poem. I especially liked the "N" part of the acrostic... really good research on finding the dates they won the national championship. However, I would change the title a bit. Perhaps "We Are Spartans" or "Spectacular Spartans" might catch more attention. All in all, nice work!
