What is water pollution?
Water pollution occurs when waste products or other substances change the physical thermal, chemicals or biological characteristics of the water, adversely affecting living species and reducing the water’s beneficial uses.
What are some of the sources of water pollution?
Physical thermal, chemicals or biological characteristics are some sources of water pollution. After the water has becomes polluted we should dispose our toxic substances
What are some consequences of water pollution?
All the garbage from people littering can get washed down to the ocean making animals sick and they can die. Also the ocean can flood the earth by being over flowed. When people dump their garbage in the ocean animals such as fish, birds, and more die or suffer from water pollution from human’s filth like plastic, medal, and Styrofoam.
What can be done to improve the quality of water for becoming polluted?
Solutions involve finding sustainable ways of the urban area are to reduce both its dependence on pollutants and the pollutants it produces and to properly recycle or dispose of pollutants before they contaminate soil, water, or air.
What are some actions that can be taken to help prevent water from becoming polluted?
By reducing fertilizers being applied to fields and was residential lawn, we can reduce the potentials for nitrates entering into local watercourses after rainstorms tile draining sources could be placed deeper into soil there by reducing the chances that nitrates will be carried into them.
What are nitrates and how do they get into our water supply?
Nitrates can enter watercourse and ponds from sources such as areas of high fertilizer used, livestock, feedlots, pastures, and sewage treatment areas. Nitrate is applied to fields and lawn’s as a nutrient for plants nitrate is a natural compound present in all ecosystems.
What effect do high nitrates levels have on people?
Some people who drink water containing arsenic in excess of EPA’s standard over many years could experience skin damage and have an increase risk of getting cancer. It causes blue baby syndrome. The water pollution control act of 1972, later known as the clean water act, mandated improvements in sewage treatment technology, to be funded jointly by the federal state and local government.
