Planets The sun is one au away from the sun which is about 93,000,000 miles away. Light goes at 186,000 miles per second and takes eight minutes for light to get to earth. A long time ago, a man name Ptolemy said that the earth was the center of the universe. Even without knowing for sure, he spread the information with others. He did this because in the bible it says that God made the universe and the heavens perfect. Ptolemy thought that if they didn't believe the earth wasn't in the center they would be saying that the universe isn't perfect and they wouldn't go to heaven. In the 1500's they didn't know what to call planets so they called them wandering stars. We have many planets in our solar system but unfortunately pluto is a long way away.
