Exciting changes!
Big things are happening here at roomtwelve.com. First, there is a new group of third grade bloggers (on the right, under Room Twelve) who are just diving right in, setting up their blogs and already posting articles on their blogs. This is certainly a record for a fast start! I look forward to lots of great writing and conversations here during the 09-10 school year.
There is also some pretty exciting news for some of the Room Twelve Alumni (on the right, down a bit). Nine students are no longer there - but that's because their blogs have been moved to their current fifth grade teacher, Mr. Gonzalez! Best of luck to those wonderful writers as they continue on with their writing!
To visitors: all student blogs can still receive comments. They are, as they always have been, moderated by me. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find some enjoyable reading. - Mr. A.

Thanks for the comments, folks!
Pat, it would be super if you included a link to our blog from yours - thanks!
Mrs. Lawson, I know, from reading your blog, that you are really getting into lots of new tools at your school, and I think that's fantastic!
As for your questions about blogging, here are a couple of answers:
Yes, it does take quite a bit of time to set up and organize, but once it's rolling, it's pretty easy to maintain. Most of my blogging assignments spring from current events or holidays. For students without computers at home, they have plenty of opportunity to get on them in my classroom, where we have 17 (and 6 XO laptops).
All the best - Mr. A.

Hello Mr. Ahlness,
I teach tech classes at our school for grades 3 through 8. My third graders have just begun blogging and are very excited about it. If you don't mind, I will post a link to your class on my site and have them read what your class is writing. I would like them to learn to leave comments and be able to communicate with other students. We are at the opposite end of the country in Pennsylvania. Good luck to you and your class this year!

Hello! I am an Illinois elementary school librarian taking an online class on using podcasts, blogs, and wikis as Web 2.0 tools in education. I really like how your classroom blog is organized (and up-to-date), and I can't wait to share it with my classroom teacher colleagues. Does it take a long time to set up and organize? How do you choose your blogging assignments? What do you do if your students do not have computers at home? Do you set aside time during the school day for them to blog? I have lots of questions! I think this is a great way for students to write for an audience -- thanks!
