Welcome! class_picture_funny_2006

Welcome! But this webpage (blog) is closed!

The students from Mr. Brune's 5th grade class of 2006-2007 have moved on to the middle school.

The former 5th graders are still welcome to post articles here though! Let's see if anyone does. . . .

And YOU can still comment to their work (see below for directions), but I can't promise they will comment back.

There WILL be a new class of students HERE in September 2007. So leave us a comment there or here and we'll be sure to comment back to you then in September.

You can comment to the teacher, Gordon Brune, by commenting to this aritcle or contacting me HERE.

Thanks for visiting!

You can leave us a comment at the bottom of this article (click the "comment" link and scroll down) or leave a comment for a specific student by visiting his or her page to the right and leaving a comment at the bottom of an article.

It's all about those comments and having an audience! We wouldn't waste our time with this website if it wasn't for the comments we get! Leave us a comment and we'll comment back! (Sometimes it takes us up to a week to comment back. We have only 4 classroom computers so it's hard for each of us to get to our comments as quickly as we would like.)

But remember to include a link to your webpage (blog) in the comment or it's VERY hard for us to find you! Some of you have commented and we don't know where you are and we can't comment back! ):

Below is what the comment fields will look like when you click on the "comment" link at the bottom of someone's article. Note, sometimes you have to scroll WAY down past other comments to see these comment fields. Also, you don't HAVE to include an email address or a link to a webpage -- but if you do include a link to your webpage (blog) we will comment back. And, again, sometimes it takes us up to a week to comment back. We have only 4 classroom computers so it's hard for each of us to get to our comments as quickly as we would like.

Hi,

My name is Bronwen Eady, and I am teaching Mrs Ruskin's class, who's blog you have commented on (thanks!) while she is on maternity leave. I was just checking out other classroom blogs and came across yours - it's fantastic.

I noticed while I was there that you didn't know what part of Australia we are in, so I thought I'd give you some more details so your new class can look us up! We are in Ballina, northern New South Wales, very close to Byron Bay, the most easterly part of Australia, so we are easy to put on the map.

If you would like to suggest your class have a look around our blog http://www.classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=38859
and leave a comment telling us where they are from, I will ask my students to comment back and tell you more about the local area. I know my class is very keen to have some international correspondents!

Keep up the great blogging!

Bronwen

Hello from Kamloops, in the province of British Columbia, Canada! I am the Teacher-Librarian at Parkcrest Elementary School, which is a K-7 school of just over 400 students. We haven't started blogging yet, but it is something I really want to get several classes doing next year. Is it ok with all of you if I use your blog as an example of what phenomenal things a class can do when they start a Blogmeister account? I'm really impressed with your work and how you have made connections with people all over the world! It's really exciting stuff!

Hi There,
I teach in the Herricks District on Long Island. I just started blogging with my fifth graders a few weeks ago. I always read your yahoo group entries with interest and have learned a lot. I just went to your site and am impressed with how it looks. My biggest question is how did you get so many people to view your blog site? This is our ultimate goal but so far we're the only ones noticing.

Hi there,
I just found you through David's new collaborator tool. Yay- hit the jackpot.

Our Blogmeister blog is brand new but we are going to use it a lot in a couple of weeks when school goes back after our two week Easter break. Being in NZ as well I know Tom Sheehan. He is going to teach in the town I came from before I started teaching here in Appleby, Nelson, New Zealand.

Our ordinary class blog is Moturoa Classroom

We are about to start a unit of work called Destination New York and wondered if we could use your class and your good self of course to help us answer our questions about life in NY, USA?

Hello!
My name is Katie and I am currently a student at Florida State University. I am in the Masters program for Library Science which is also a distance program so I am able to stay in NJ while attending. I am currently working on my final project for my Design & Production of Media Resources class. My goal is to produce a multimedia report that presents a case study of:

A way that an information agency is incorporating an aspect of participatory culture (blogs, wikis, podcast, etc.) to support learning and/or meet the information needs of their clients; OR
A way that information professionals are using an aspect of participatory culture to foster peer-to-peer learning and/or community among information professionals.
I came across your blog through a friend of mine and I would love to use your class blog as a part of my case study. Would you be interested in taking part of an interview? I could either email you the questions or we could speak on the phone. If you are interested I can send you a more detailed email about the project.
Thanks in advance,
Katie

Hi Mr. Brune,

My name is Michelle Haseltine and I teach fifth grade in Loudoun County,
Virginia (outside of Washington D.C.). Today, while researching student
blogs I found the blog from your fifth graders. I am impressed and
overwhelmed. Do you have any suggestions for how to begin? I've seen
lots of blogs with different set ups and I like the look of yours. That
is what I am looking to create with my class.

Where do I start? How often do you have the students blog? Is it a
requirement or optional? Any guidance or suggestions you can offer will
be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time!

Take care,
Michelle Haseltine

Keep up the good work. We hope a terrible earthquake never happens here in Washington state., and it is from Mrs. Burch

Mr. Brune-I think your classroom blog is one of the best I have seen. As a instructional technology specialist I was looking for a good model blog to show staff. Your's was it!!! Mr. Brune...hello! I was reading an article on Blogging as a requirement for a computer class I am taking and your name and school mentioned in the article caught my eye. I was a student at Mamaroneck School in kindergarten and 1st grade in 1966 and 1967. My family then moved to GA where I grew up and I am now a 3rd grade teacher in Summerville, SC. I think it is wonderful wnat you are doing with tehnology and your students. This is all new to me. I have taught 3rd grade for 21 years and there is so much new technology that can be used to enhance learning. Your students artwork and articles are wonderful...such good authors! Maybe someday soon I will be able to try blogging. I have a few fond memories of Mamaroneck School..I am sure it has changed alot. I don't know if you will get this, but if you do, keep up the good work! Ann Riley Oakbrook Elementary School

Hello Mr. Brune, I am a 4th year education student from Canada and I am reviewing your classroom blog, which is excellent by the way, for an assignment. If there is any information that you would feel comfortable sharing with me about your experience creating and maintaining the blog, student's enthusiam, problems you encountered or potential problems you considered, etc. I would be grateful. I understand that you are busy so if I do not hear from you know that I have enjoyed reading the children's stories and comments, they are very talented and witty too!

Hi Gordon, We live in Vernon, B.C., Canada. We are wanting to set up a blog for a grade 4 and grade 6/7 class. We'll be on blogmeister at some point. Can you give me any hints or tips ? Your class looks amazing and wonderfully child-centered ! Well done ! Sincerely, Kim Ondrik

Gordon, As part of a presentation for a conference I am looking at lots of elementary school blogs and seeing how they are being used. I wanted to look at your student blogs, but when I clicked I got a message telling me to let you know that there was a problem. Since I use Blogmeiester myself I know the solution: 1. Open your blog and log in. 2. Click on the blogmeister link at the top of the page. 3. A acceptable use statement will appear. 4. Once you have signed the statement you will again have access to all of your student blogs. This happened because David Warlick moved all of the blogs to a new domain "classblogmeister.com" and he wanted to be sure to make the tool as safe for kids as possible from his end. If you have time to send me a few thoughts also I would appreciate it: * How has blogging worked in your classroom? How do you use it? * Has it had any effect on your literacy instruction and on student achievement? * What advice would you give to other teachers who are thinking of trying it? Thanks, Janice

I came across your blog from the blogmeister list. I try to monitor the listserv in order to support my teachers when they might come aboard. I am the Educational Technologist for a school on an air force base in Italy. I have a blogmeister site but it is more to test how it works since I don't have classes. I try every now and then to look at a site of one of us fellow blogmeister groupies and comment here and there, but didn't put in the URL of my blog since it is really rather meaningless. I am pretty new at blogging and learning as I go. But not having the everyday use of it like full time classroom teachers, I sometimes feel I am just on the outside looking in. Anyhow, this is probably more than you wanted to know!

Hi Gordon, I just wanted to drop by to let you know what a great job I think you are doing with your students. I love the connections that are being made between your kids and the JHH bloggers. I am getting second graders started at "Neville's Bloggers" at http://itc.blogs.com/Neville Maybe your students would like to comment on their introductions. They are a sharp little group, just like yours. Keep up the great work! You're making a difference!

I love your blog. I'm helping a first grade start a class blog and I'm most impressed by this (and your kids). What blogging tool do you use. Do you have a "How To" sheet that you created for the hundreds of educators who ask this same question. Much obliged if you can give any guidance. Thanks.

Good afternoon! I LOVE your blog! My name is Amber Teamann, and I'm a math/science teacher in Texas. I have recently started blogging with my fourth graders here in Garland and am actually presenting at a Regional Technology Conference in Monday and would like to "show" yours as an example as well. I have a couple questions for you, if you have the time and don't mind. I am on the blogmeister site as well...how do you link yo documents? like the LA love letter at the bottom? and the click this image to see more pics? is that thru flicker? I am using a free site for pics that I've found but may need to look into flickr as well. Again, you're doing an excellent job. I am VERY motivated by your efforts, :) Amber Teamann 4th Grade Math/Science Beaver Technology Center

Happy New Year Gordon,
Just a quick note to say thanks for getting my literature studies class excited about writing and blogging. I truly appreciate your help with approving comments and for adding our class to your blog page...which I love visiting and showing off to anyone who has a moment to spare.
Unfortunately, the literature class has been canceled. Students will still be able to comment and blog, but not like before. I see students on a 8 day rotation now (not including weekends/holidays.) I think your students will be receiving comments from many different students instead. I'm in the process of teaching about 1000 students how to blog. They are not that skilled and the process seems slow at the moment, but they will get there.

Please let your students know that my class regrets that they won't be able to comment as before.

You're doing a remarkable job with your class! Keep it up!

Hi Mr. Brune.
In the comment that I got from you, you spelled book and much wrong. I know that you told me that you liked to learn about facts too and that time that you wrote to me about the Guiness Book of World records and how you also liked to read and learn about many new facts like I do.
Thank you for getting back to me.

Hi Gordon,
I just thought I'd let you know that our school is on its Christmas break until January 8. We are a modified year-round school so we get more time off during the year.

Our class truly enjoyed seeing your class photo! We also think your self-portraits are wonderful.

Hi Gordon,
Hope all is well with you. Just wondering if my kids are sending many comments ?

We are starting to wind down a little over here and we are off to camp the week starting Nov 27. I 'll try to podcast and blog from there connections permitting. Pretty slow dial up - lucky teachers are patient people.

Hello Mr.Brune.
I read the comment that you left me in my reading notebook and I stopped reading the Hobbit because it got pretty boring. I am really sorry that your father died and I think that you should ask your wife if you could be buried with that book so you can have something to remind you of your dad when you get up to heaven.
See you tomorrow Mr.Brune!

Mr. Brune, what's up? How is your knew class? Hommocks is going great for me so far, have fun with your new class! P.S. I went to Nico's house a few weeks ago in Conneticut, it was fun!

Dear Mr.Brune,
I like you as a teacher a lot. I overheard you typing and you are typing really fast. I went to my mom's office after school today and I actually work as an intern for her. I work at a desk after school on certain days. I also come in if we have no school one day. I have to get back to work.
See you tomorrow Mr. Brune!

Mr Brune,
My kids are enjoying the comments they are getting from your students. We are doing an autobiography as a way of introducing ourselves to your class. Please feel free to have your class comment and tell us a little about themselves.

Hello Gordon,
Holy cow! I woke up this morning to a HUGE pile of wonderful comments that your kids (and you) left for my third graders out here in Seattle. Fantastic - thanks to everyone!

So, we were all set to write back this morning, but the Internet has been down - aaargh! Until now, obviously...

My students and I will do our best to get back to you all with comments today, and some probably over the weekend. We are just learning how to get our url in there when making comments - some have it now, I think. And of course we'll try and have something meaningful to say as well .

Thanks again, and have a great weekend! - Mark

Hi Mr. Brune's class!

This is an amazing site... I have a website (www.eyepopproductions.com), but I don't have a blog. Can your class tell me (or direct me to instructions) as to how to set one up?

thanks!

Hi Gordon,
Thanks for the lovely comments. I will share these with the kids first thing Monday when we return after our holidays. I will try to get the kids returning comments to those who commented because it always nice.

We are going to be studying clowns this term so some of the blogs will reflect that.

And we are off on camp in November !

Hope all is well with you and your class.

Tom

Thanks for all the comments to our site! My students will be on Fall break until October 16. I'm sure they will want to see what you have been working on. They will resume commenting then.

Hello Mr. Brune,
I too, am a fifth grade teacher. I've just embarked on blogging with my fifth graders this year. My concept was to use blogging as a vehicle for sharing and discussion thoughts and opinions on current events, but I'd also like to see my students communicating with kids their age in other parts of the country. Interested in communicating with folks in Steeler Country?

Hi Gordon,
I am really new to blogging and class blogmeister. I was wonreding if you or one of your students could answer a few questions about blogging. First, how did thet get their own handwriting on their blog and second, how did they get those cool pictures on there? I plan to have a class or two of 8th graders visit your site and leave comments. I am so curious about how your students did such great work.
Thank You,

Mr. Brune,
My name is Tony Rogers and I'm a sixth grade teacher at Botkins Elementary, located in Botkins, Ohio. We received a large grant from Etech that allowed us to purchase handhelds for our sixth graders. Mrs. Brown, the other sixth grade teacher and I have taken two online courses and have had a few workshops on the handhelds. But we are new to blogging. Lani Ritter Hall has suggusted to me to write to you to see if you would like to have our classes comment to each others blogs.
I'm lookinf forward to hearing back from you.
Tony
