My fifth grade year was really fun! I learned a lot of things like what it was like to be the “New Kid” in school well... kinda. I feel that I learned that what goes around comes around. So if you work hard you will be rewarded, but if you slack than something bad will come out of it. So you might as well work hard. I also learned that “Pretty Good” is never good enough for me I want to do my best and nothing less .
In math I learned how to Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide fractions. I also learned about comparing fractions and decimals. the point is that I learned so so much and even though I didn’t like math it became much more fun this year. I used to not really understand things and nobody else would either but this year I understands math and if I don’t then somebody else does and helps me learn it.
In reading I progressed so much. I also expanded my vocabulary tremendously. Before fifth grade I wouldn’t read very often then Mr. Meyer introduced me to some really great books and I learned what kind of genres of writing that I like and which ones I really don’t care to read. I think that my reading comprehension increased and know I can enjoy books more cause I can actually understand them. I also learned that I should push myself anyways what is the down side, I get better?
In Writing I learned how important it is to put voice into my writing and how dull my writing is if I don’t. I also got to look at the rubric and see how my writing is scored and what I have to do to get the grade that I want. I learned how important the 6 + 1 traits are in writing and what effect they have when I put them in my writing.
In spelling I learned how changing long vowels to short vowels effects how you say a word. I also learned how to spell a lot of words. I learned about prefixes and suffix and what words they attach to and how they change a word.
This year I spend more time in the computer lab than I have the five years before. I learned about Wikis, Blogging, Imovie, Pages, and Keynote. As you can probably tell my school is a Mac school and some stuff like Pages and Keynote you can only have on a Mac. I also explored new stuff like bighugelabs.com and Voicethread.com, and how to use google as a research tool.
In social studies we got through so much content! From the making of the thirteen colonies to the making of the Constitution. We also did a lot of worksheets and packets on the content so that we could understand everything better. We did the vocabulary in the back of the book based on what we read. There were people, places, and just hard words that went along with the chapter.
