The Coaches of William and Arthur’s lives
William Gates was a boy growing up in Chicago and he loved basketball. His dream was being in the NBA. His hero was Michael Jordan from the Bulls. He was in 9th grade and could dunk. Arthur Agee was also a 9th grader and could not dunk.
He also loved basketball and his dream, also, was to be in the NBA. His idol was Isaih Thomas, for the Pistons. William wanted to go to St. Joseph’s High School... So did Arthur. They both ended up going and Arthur got to play Isaih Thomas in a one-on-one game. He got kicked out of the school later because he could not pay the money to the school. He was looking at other local schools and found Marshall High. He wanted to play basketball there and qualified. He liked it at Marshall and kept his grades up. Meanwhile, William was starting PG on the Varsity team. The coach was coach Pingator and he was sort of abnormal. He coached Isaih Thomas and was now going hard on William. Coach Pingator loved William but he was mean to him. He cussed at him and he was mean to other players when William did not play good. He relied on William to win and he did. William was all over the news thanks to coach. He later injured his knee and could barely play. The coach punished the other players for William’s poor performance. He tore his cartilage in his knee and had surgery. He could not play for weeks but he got back. He then re-injured his knee and this time came back instead of more surgery. He came back for the semi-finals and lost. He left St. Joes and thanked coach. He then went to Marquette and played basketball. He loved it there and then dropped out of school. He did not make it to the NBA. Arthur Agee’s coach at Marshall was nice and did not yell. He loved Arthur and he wanted to make it to the championship. Once William lost he shone. He had a spectacular season and then went to a local College. He did not make it to the NBA
The things that would have happened if William would not have been injured
William had injuries in his basketball career. He injured his knee, healed, re-injured it, and then healed to then lose a championship. William could have been better. If he did not injure his knee things would have been different. He might have had a better season when he missed out and he could have won another championship. He also might have gotten in to a better college because the spies would have seen him play more and better. The coach might not have punished the other players for his mistake and they would have done better. He actually would have beat his rival team in the semi-finals and it would be Arthur watching William not William watching Arthur. When he would have had a better career he might have had his dad come back and they would finally be a family. The Gates and Agee families could play basketball games. The Gates family could get Arthur playing basketball and going to work again. He could have made them so proud.
What Might Have Happened If William’s Dad Came Back And Arthur’s Dad Would Have Mad Good Choices?
If William’s dad would have came back he might have played better. He would have gotten good grades and not have dropped out of school. He could have a real family and have his wife be part of it. He could have had more championship titles and more fame if his dad came back. He actually could have been happy and in college he would not have dropped out of school. He probably loved his dad and was very sad that he did not get to see him. If Arthur’s dad would have stayed off drugs he might have gotten a better influence on Arthur. Arthur would have had a better basketball career and he would have had a real family. He would not have had to watch his dad rob him and assult him. He would be a real person and maybe even make it to the NBA.
