Seedfolks Seed Packets

Have you ever wanted to plant garden and be able to eat the things that you grew? Have you ever just wanted to get connected with your neighborhood and make some best friends? Seed Folks is a book about some people just getting together to make a big community garden. They have to make the garden in a courtyard that lies in the shadows of Cleveland, Ohio. All of these people have connections to how they live which makes the community feel more connected with each other. It takes some time for the garden to start but it gets going after a while. Seed Folks is a heartwarming book that will lift up your spirits and let them soar to new heights of compassion.

Ms. O’Connell’s Language Art class did a project on Seed Folks. We had to make 2 seed packets.  One seed packet was a plant that connected with the Seed Folks book. The other seed packet had a plant that had some connection to someone in your family. My first seed packet was a connection with Kim, a character in the book. Kim is a little girl who starts the garden. She is shy and sensitive. She misses her father because of his death so she decides to start a small garden. Soon people start to notice her little garden and want to join in. The garden becomes a big success. I named my seed packet, Little Lima’s Lima Beans. They are little black beans that are small which compare with Kim. They don’t grow in the sun all day but need to be moved into the shade. This compares with Kim’s sensitivity. They grow up your family alter that has a picture of your dad on it. This compares to Kim’s feelings for missing her dad. The beans may be small but never underestimate them. They taste really good.

My second seed packet was a connection with my dog Baxter, a wild-crazy puppy that never wants to stop playing. The name of my seed packet is Wild, Wild Wheat, the Wheat that’s Wild. This wheat grows up 20-50 feet high. It sprouts in 30 min and won’t stop eating when they first sprout. This compares to Baxter’s craziness. This wheat his fury ends which compares to Baxter’s furry tail. When growing the wheat you need to plant at least 2 seeds so it can have a companion. This compares to Baxter’s need to play. Baxter is a crazy dog that is easily connected to the wildness of the wheat.
