We Are Readers This is such an exciting time of the year in grade one. Children who did not yet recognize all the letters of the alphabet just 6 months ago can now pick up books and read them independently. They can all communicate their thoughts in words (with perhaps, slightly unconventional spelling), and are all justifiably proud of their accomplishments. Every once in awhile, one of the children will ask me what something says, and I say, "you tell me". They look at the words for a minute, then a slow smile spreads over their face and with a sheepish grin, they read it to me. I have the best job in the world.
