Friday Writing
When I was a boy growing up in Regina, I looked up to the Saskatchewan Roughrider football players. In particular, Ron Lancaster and George Reed. Many critics of Lancaster said he was too small to play quarterback. Ron Lancaster proved them all wrong. He dominated the game for many seasons. As young boys we played football out in the school yard at every available moment. There was always someone who pretended to be Lancaster or Reed.
Ron Lancaster's determination and drive are very similar to those of us who reside in Saskatchewan. We are able to identify with this man. Rider Pride is alive and well because of Mr. Lancaster. Ron Lancaster died on Thursday at 69 years of age. He was able to touch the lives of many people, especially those in Saskatchewan. I looked up to Mr. Lancaster and wanted to be like him.
Your Friday writing assignment is to tell us who is your hero. Who do you look up to? Why do you respect them. I look forward to reading about your heroes!
