 when the Iditorod started desease called diphtheria it was a lung desease and they needed some surum(thats what they called it)they tried to send the surum by ship but the lake was frozen. Then they tried to send it by aircraft but there was to many storms.Then they tried to send it by train but it only went to Nenena.Then they had to transpport the serum by dog sled to nome.That is how the iditarod started. Tey had to relay the surum to Nome.At least 20 dog teams took this place in the race.The race would take at least 5 days 7 hours.To the first checkpoint it would be at least 647 miles and 27.4 hours.the they soon got the surum to Nome and it healed all the sick children.Now Nome is in peace with no sickness but if there were any it would be taken care of.Now there is a statue of Baltro in New York's central park and the body of Balto is preseved in clevelands history museum.The people in Nome want Bolto back in hi home town Article posted March 12, 2008 at 03:47 PM • comment (1) • Reads 1220 • Return to Blog List Add a CommentPosted Comments  It looks like you know a lot about the I ditarod!
