 Roman Vs German Essay The definition of bravery is courageous behavior or character, this is a word that Germans and the Romans lived by. The Romans and Germans were different in their laws, lifestyle and army. The Germans and the Roman laws were very different in many ways. They were two civilizations that had many different qualities and strategies. They both were successful. The roman laws were written down on the twelve tablets. The Germans based their laws on the customs from their ancestors it was memorized and not written down unlike the Germans. The Germans judged their innocent and guilt in a different way then the Romans. The roman laws came from the emperor, and the German laws came from the people. The laws from the Germans could only be changed unless the people agreed. The Roman laws were fair everyone was considered equal. German rulers could not change the rules the people had to vote on it. The lifestyles between the Romans and the Germans were very different. The Romans had to trade for food, Meanwhile the Germans would farm their food. The Romans lived in a house called a domus they were rich houses with marble walls. The rich houses were in the city they were always on the first floor. The Germans had women and children slaves. They lived in thatched roof huts. Their animals provided heat in their houses. The Romans and Germans also have very different armies and warriors. The Romans were great conquers, They had a very strong army with organized strategies. For example, one of their strategies was the legionaries. They made the old Greeks phalanx better. Their general Gaius Marius a hero in their military offered the poor to join the army by offering them pensions,land, pay and booty. The Romans had a strong army they were very disciplined . They also had great equipment. On the other hand the Germans were warriors, The men started training for the wars as young boys. They formed clans based on the warriors family ties. Their was a important person in the clan called a chief-tan, In order to become a chief-tan you had to fight very well. In the beginning the chief-tan would have to be elected by a bunch of the other warriors. The chief-tans gave the men weapons, leadership and a chance for their wealth and adventure. The Germans love of the battle were linked to religion, their chief god Wodan was the god of war. The Germans and the Romans were very different societies. The laws were different because the Romans were very fair; they changed their laws for the people they just conquered. The German laws came from the people. The lifestyle were very different because the Germans lived in a rural area where they farmed and the Romans lived in a city where they traded. Rome has a better army because they are well organized.
