We are in full swing with our research about garter snakes. Yesterday we made a research book to record all our new information we learn about garter snakes. Each page has one of the questions we wanted to learn.

Our first source of information was the book pictured above. Not only did we learn some new facts about snakes and answer some of our questions, we also learned about "non-fiction" books and what is a "table of contents". We also loved how the images in the book were actual real photos.
Today, we were able to access another source of information. The Kiddoes decided earlier we could learn information from an "expert", so Susan, (my Mom) came in to answer some of our questions. We found out she knew lots about snakes.

The best part of the morning came when we found out that Susan brought a live garter snake which she was able to capture at her farm. We were able to take a close look at the snake and learned even more information from being able to study it live. Each Kiddoe had the chance to come up and take a look.

We learned that there wasn't any need to hurt the snake in order for us to study and learn from it. We were relieved to know that Susan was going to take it back to the farm as garter snakes will live and hibernate in the same spot for their whole lives! We all agree.... the more we learn about garter snakes, the more we think that they are pretty cool rather than scary!!
