Ancient Greek Ampitheatre
Our project is an Ancient Greek Amphitheatre. The time period of this ancient Greek structure was between 550 and c. 220 BC. The architecture was used for entertainment for the Greeks. The city of Athens became a great cultural, political and military was during this time in history. The Greeks celebrated the Dionysia which were to celebrate the Greek God Dionysus and all of his gifts to mankind. The three types of theatre were tragedy which was during the late 600’s BC. Comedy was also played as theatre and it was during 486 BC. Satyr Play was the last type of theatre they had. The Ampitheatre was used for entertainment for the Greeks even though women were not allowed to be an actress in the play. Only men were allowed. This architecture was incredible because it helped everyone have a great time.
This architecture has a lot of importance to me because it created the foundation for everything we have today. It created stories to tell and people started making them and they expanded so far that they made television so everyone could see it at any time in the comfort of their own home. It helped people relax two- thousand years ago and now comedy and tragedy stories help me unwind and relax for a while. Shakespeare, one of the great poets, made these stories and he became a hit and people still read his stories today to learn a lot about his work. Schools still teach his work even after 400 years and we still use plays but not as popular though. This is still good after two- thousand years after Athens had theatre.Theatre also may have inspired some music that we have today with all of their tragedy and people may have started to sing and speak about their lives through music instead of doing it on plays or on stage. This artifact created stadiums for sports because it was in the exact same shape and people expanded on it. Now, thousands of people could go to the game and see everything without standing up and having no problem at all. It is stilled used in the 21st century today.
This Amphitheatre had a great significance in history. The significance in history that it had was that it was able to entertain people and give them something to do on their free time so they would not be bored and do nothing. The Amphitheatre was able to seat many thousands of people. The theatre was able to discuss things about politics through their plays in it. People were watching and entertained while also technically discussing and listening to ideas of politics. People could see the expressions on actors’ faces with them having masks on and this was good because all the people could see the show without twitching or moving. The acrostics gave the people an advantage because all of them could hear about the topic without the actors having to shout just like in your stadiums. The Athenians had all these theatres and it caused a lot of ideas to come to us and we expanded on them as mentioned earlier. The significance that this theatre had had in history is that the Western Culture used it and it became part of their culture like for the Indians and other theatre cultures.
Overall, the Amphitheatre had a great significance to me and history. The Amphitheatre was used for entertainment but also for politics. It had a great importance in history for this and it was important to me and society because people expanded on these ideas to then make television and plays like Shakespeare. To me, without any of this theatre in Athens, then we would not have much to do and we may have never had television in our time today. It may have come in centuries later or years later.
