End of Water (Quality)
At this point we are wrapping up water quality. I learned a lot about parameters (water quality jobs) and such. My parameter was nitrates. Nitrates is an element of nitrogen. I studied down at a creek with a Harry Potter wand type thing called a probe. We put the probe in the water and I guess this little thing called a Lab Quest (look it up in the Google bar) reads the statistics of the nitrogen levels in the creek. Our average was 0.3, which pretty much means our creeks nitrogen levels are pretty good. One of the many 'fantastic' things I learned about water quality was all of things that cause water pollution (see Water Pollution blog, http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blog_id=1377774&mode=comment&user_id=&blogger_id=), so it can be prevented. For example, nuclear waste as well as oil leaks can be EXTREMELY TOXIC to streams, oceans and lakes. A smaller, but still bad cause is leaving trash laying around for it to blow into an area occupied by water. Plastics and dumping chemicals are also a leading cause to water pollution. We also briefly did something called Benthic Macro Invertabrates (I am currently looking up how to spell the last part) which are basically bugs that live in creeks and tell how good the water quality is. We had many tolerant bugs in our creek so that means our creek is potentially good. Yay!!! Another awesome thing regarding the creek is that all the other parameters (D.O, ph, turbidity, temperature, and ammonium) got fairly good scores. Again, Yay!!!
Conclusion to the thrilling END OF WATER (quality)
This is my epic conclusion to a story that could literally be explained in a paragraph. So apparently due to the fact that all of the evidence is pointing to epicness in the study that is environmental science, I can only conclude that our creek is doing great. One of the ways we keep it great is that we test the waters for badness (sorry, bad grammar.) So, if your creek is doing badly, run down to your creek right now with expensive lab equipment and check what can be done. What can be done you may ask? Well just use a nice healthy pitcher of brain power and common sense and your creek will be safe in no time. =^D
