Poetry Tools Poetic “tools” are use to make the readers see and imagine things wail they’re reading. Some poetic tools are personification and rhyme. Personification is when the writer gives a nonhuman thing human like abilities. For example, a poet may use a pencil in his poem and say it danced across the paper but pencils cannot dance he/she just makes it seem that way. Rhyme is a poetic “tool” that entertains and keeps the reader interested. Rhyme is when the end of two words that sound the same. For example, “The Cat in the Hat” is a rhyming poem. Poetic “tools” are very important to a poem because without them poetry would be boring and dull.
