My class read biographies. I read about Harriet Tubman. She was a great woman. Let me tell you about her.
Harriet Tubman is a biography book about a woman who freed the slaves. After reading this book I learned many new and interesting things. Harriet was born in the year 1820 in Bucktown, Maryland. No one knows the exact date of her birth. The most important thing to know about Harriet is that she received a silver medal for her bravery. This is important because Harriet fought in the Civil War and helped slaves escape. I also learned that at a very young age Harriet suffered a crushed skull and black-outs just so she could prevent a man from being whipped. Further more I learned that Harriet and the other slave helpers put quilts in the windows to show the slaves where they can go to be safe. Some meant that there were slave hunters around. The most amazing thing that I learned was that she bought 25 acres of land to help create a home for elderly African Americans. Finally Harriet Tubman died in 1913 from pneumonia. She lived to be 93.
I would recommend this book because it shows many facts that amaze you about her life. If you want to learn more about Harriet Tubman, a woman of courage, then this is the book for you!
