At the beginning of Greek Literature, stand two amazing works of Homer called the lliad and the Odyssey. The Iliad is the story of the end of the Greeks war with the city of Troy. The Greek warrior Achilles was their fiercest fighter. His legend says he was immortal because his mother had dipped him by his left heel into the River Styx. When Achilles fought for Greece, they could not lose.
This tells the story of Odysseus’ return to Greece from the war in Troy. Odysseus ran into a lot of trouble with the gods on his voyage home. It is the sequel to the poem the lliad.
Another great poet was named Hesiod. His two pieces of writing that are called Works and Days and Theogony. Homer and Hesiod were once rivals in contest.
