Robert the Bruce Robert the Bruce was born on July 11, 1274 in Scotland. He was the oldest son of Marjorie and Robert, the Earl of Carrick. Robert the Bruce was the eighth male in his family that had the name Robert the Bruce. Robert the Bruce lead his country to victory against England who had taken over the rule of Scotland. Robert the Bruce is the reason why Scotland gained their independence. He died on June 7, 1329. He is thought of to be one of the greatest patriots of Scotland.
