 Where Does The Toilet Water Go?
Well, I must say..... today's kindergarten conversation was a new one for me! To set up the story, I must tell you what we discussed yesterday. I was asked by one of the students, "what do we do if we are in the washroom and there is a code white?" So down to the washroom we went as a class and discussed what our job was in order to be safe. It was decided that a good idea was to lock yourself in a stall and stand on the toilet seat so nobody could see your feet. On the way back to room, I enjoyed listening to the conversations being had and hearing the kiddoes discuss their new "strategy" in case of an emergency! Well, this morning, we were reviewing what our "strategy" was. I made a joke that the only time anyone was to ever, ever, ever (insert repeated evers) stand on the toilet seat was if a code white was announced and they were in the washroom. One kiddoe than piped up in response, "yea, because if you stand on the toilet seat, you might fall and then have toilet water feet!" Immense giggles filled the room. Another kiddoe spoke, "good thing we aren't small so that if we did fall, we wouldn't flush down the toilet!” Of course our topic of the day then arose immediately. "Ms. S," I was asked, "where does the toilet water go?" I proceeded to turn the chart paper to a fresh page and wrote out our question. Below are our predictions.
It is so amazing to watch the engagement of children when you are discussing something in which they are interested. These are all of the concepts which were indirectly taught today through one simple question:

Posted Comments  Hi, Thanks for the comment. If a code white is announced during the day, it means there is someone in the school who may not belong there. The kiddoes and I have practiced our "strategies" to remain safe under many different circumstances. I am really proud of how calm and responsible they all are when we practice!

Lindsay Stuart Hey Ms. S. As I work in a profession where I deal with different code colours and what they mean, I was wandering what Code White stands for? My child could not explain it, but he did know what he had to do. Great job on the blog, I love reading it.
