Poetic Effects There are a few tools poets use to create an effect. One is tone, the words that you use. Some words can make you happy while others can show anger. Another tool is what kind of rhythm they make. For example if all the lines rhyme or just some. One last thing is sentence length. The longer the lines the more dramatic it seems. The shorter the lines the happier it seems. Those are just some of the many tools poets use. In "The Charge of the Light Brigade," Tennyson had ends of lines rhyming he had a wide range of vocab.
