Challenge or Change We Are the World
Michael Jackson

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And its time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We can't go on pretending day by day
That someone, somehow will soon make a change
We are all a part of Gods great big family
And the truth, you know,
Love is all we need

[Chorus]
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
Its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Send them your heart so they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stones to bread
So we all must lend a helping hand

[Chorus]

When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one

[Chorus: x2]
Text to Text:
This song reminds me of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous speech, "I have a dream." Although it's not a song or a poem, I think it would count as something like a song or a poem. During that time, I'm pretty sure that Martin Luther King Jr. and many other people were going through a lot of difficulties and they wanted a change. Who wouldn't. I think that in this song, it was kind of a motivation factor for people to start helping and donating things. In Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech, he was motivating people to stand up for what was right.

Text to Self:
Usually, when I have hard times, I sulk and act like the world just ended. However, when I do that for a long enough time, I feel really stupid. How could I be sulking for a little thing when other people in Africa and Haiti are having a much harder time than me? I think to myself that I need to stop acting like this and continue with what is most important. The song is not just meant for people who are poor and desperately need help but also for people who need to change themselves.

Text to World:
This song was meant for Africa but it is also meant for other places that are in need such as the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami. It pretty much has the same meaning. We can all make a change in what we do. Our lives can suck and keep sucking or our lives can suck and then be amazing. It's all about how we change.
