 Challenge or Change When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world. ~Author:Unknown Monk 1100 A.D. Text to text: This relates to "Change Your World" by Brian Tracy because both show ways that you can help the world just by improving yourself. The poems say that changing the world yourself is very difficult so you can begin smaller by changing yourself. By changing yourself, you can affect others who will affect more people and soon the goodness that you created will spread farther to achieve your goal. Text to self: This relates to myself because it shows me that by changing and improving myself, it can really affect others. Although I may be small, that little bit of change in my life can change others' lives too. Text to world: When Martin Luther King Jr. saw the need for equal rights to all people, he wanted that himself and by showing that it is really important, more people followed. Even though he made great impact in the world, it didn't just happen over night and in the poem, it shows that change takes time to be made. I agree that changing yourself impacts others. But, I'm (sadly) much smaller than you, so I'll have to disagree on that part. The guy in the poem was right, too -- you can only change yourself and you should realize that as soon as possible. I also didn't think about how Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't just blink and BOOM! equality, but now that you mention it, it probably did take awhile for him to change things.
