We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Salmon fry

Salmon Fry

The fry start living in schools and they start feeding into the river. They feed mostly on zooplankton until they're big enough to eat aquatic insects. Some salmon live in the river up to three years. Some go to the river as soon as they leave their nests. Loss of habitat along streams, rivers, and bays is one of their dangers.
