Wiki Reflection
Now that you've wrapped up this big group project, reflect. How did it go? How was it working in a group this way? Was the communication in your group effective or were there things you could have done differently?
What went well? What things could you do differently or the same?
ALSO.... give Mrs. Lubich and I some feedback. What would be ways that we could improve this project for next year's students?
Don't forget, this is a one time post, so check for errors! This blog will receive a grade for the way it is posted the first time!!
You worked hard and I'm proud of the way you problem solved your way through the obstacles we encountered.

It went okay I think. The communication could have gone better. In the end, I thimk we did well. I think the instructions weren't very clear.

I think that the wiki went okay. There were alot of communication problems. My partners picked a poem without me, then cancelled that poem and did another one without me, then two of the people didn't even post their video. i didn't like working with partners, I wish i could have done it by myself. I would make them communicate more next year so there aren't any mixups like there were in my group. I would keep the criteria the same

I think that overall, the wiki went well. There were problems though that could have been fixed. There were problems with the communication because some people didn't always get on so you could not connect with them. I think that our video was good and everything went smoothly with the video. I did not like working wuth people that far away though. It felt like we were very distant. I think that it would have helped if my group would have checked the daily goals. I would work on communication more for next year, but keep the criteria the same. I would have a certain thing that you have to say to your partners each day next time and make sure that everybody gets on everyday to get and receive messages.

For the most part, I really enjoyed the project. There were a few problems that really can't be avoided when working on a computer such as; password mess ups, wifi connections at home, web site blockings at school...etc. I did encounter some problems that could've been avoided though. The communication was ok, though, it was not seen as a problem for my group. However, the timing was a major problem for me. I had a bunch of extra curriculars after school. I had a hard time working on the page, AND trying to cram in teenbiz, blogs, band rehearsals, christmas plays, extra schoolwork to make up for the holidays, and I take religious ed. and piano every week. I think the assignment should either be WAY earlier, or AFTER the holidays. Other than that though, everything else went pretty well. I really liked the long distance idea to the project.

I liked doing the Wiki spaces and my group was awesome and I would prefer if you did this for next year and I think we should just have one group chat room and not ten or twenty. The whole thing went well and I liked my partners. Keep the same criteria.

My project went alright. I was doing the second two stanzas in the poem for the photostory. Someone in my group had done it even though I posted that I was going to do it myself. For the most part, we had good cooperation and we all did good uploading information. At first, when I was trying to do my project, the computer wouldn't let me comment or edit. Next time I would definately try to get the pictures and information in faster. It was partly my fault for starting late and partly them for making me have to do a diff. part of the poem and start over. Next year I think that the students should get some more time to work on this project; I know some people didn't finish eather. That's it.

This project went very well. I think our groups communicated very well. I liked that the students lived so far away we never would've met them otherwise. However I felt like I did all the work on the page and they just dived into the video. We should all do things at the same time. Give specific deadlines. Maybe just suggested deadlines, because I don't like turning in a million tiny things instead of one big thing.

I think my group's wikipage was a big success. We were very cooperative on everything except the photostory. The photostory was chaos. My parts would get deleted and nobody would answer my question to who was doing it. I think you could make this even better for next year by stressing to them how important it is to go to the how to's and daily goals. Show them some of the photostories of the people who went to all of that stuff and of those who didn't.

I wish my partners would have worked more on the project. Also I wish that we would have found a little more research on our projects. Also, not to point fingers but,I wish one of my partners would have done the part of the video that they were supposed to do.

I think my project went pretty well. I liked working in a group, especially with people that were from Colorado because we got to make friends with them. I think the communication was effective but I know that some people might not check their e-mails because they may think that the e-mail they've received is most likely a Happy Holidays e-mail or an e-mail complaining about it. I personally really liked this project because of the photostory since it was fun to do, decorating the wikispace, putting in pictures that we liked, making a wikipage from the information we got, and having everything due in parts.

My project did not go very well because it was difficult to communicate. It was difficult to work in a long distance group. The page itself looked nice in the end. I think we should've exchanged phone numbers, therefore we could do a group call and plan things faster and more easily.I also think that next year, you should not require a video, that was the most confusing and difficult part.

This project went better than I thought they would. It was much harder to work in a group only communicating by emails. Although it was difficult, my group members went on the wiki almost every day, making it easier. One way to improve the project would be to make it easier to get to the website at school, (which I know not much can be done).

I think the overall project went well. Working in a group could be fun at times. Yet, it also could be annoying waiting for responses. We could've all gotten on at the same time to communicate. Mainly we worked well together. Please sort out all the bugs with logging in.

My project went well.It sometimes was hard with comunication but it worked in the end. i think if you read the wiki before you post it will cause less duplication of information

I think that this project went pretty well! My group members were cooperative and helped our page a lot. I actually thought it was fun but the Colorado kids could try and do a little more work. I think the communication was good because we would tell each what we needed to do and what we did everyday and we helped each other out a lot. The page turned out well but the video was not that great. I think something that we could do differently is post our video on the same link because only 2 of us had the same link and there were 4 links on our page. And we could be more careful of what we deleted because my video was deleted at first and it was a whole problem. Some things that could the teachers could improve for the project next year is that we could find a better way to communicate like video chatting. And maybe you could try something other than poets so it would be a little more fun and interesting.

I think that the wiki project went well. I thought the it was very complicated working in groups like we did because it was hard to talk with your partners. Our group needed to talk with each other more. Our facts and our pictures were great. I would have finished the wiki earlier than the due date so that I could have time to perfect the wiki. I wouldn't change a thing except if you could find a way to improve the communicatin between groups.

I personally enjoyed working with people from another state. It was very hard to communicate, because, my team members got on every other day, and most of the time, they didn't even read the message I posted. It would've been allot easier if we had their phone numbers to call or text them. The photo story ended up going well. I liked everything that happened. It was a very fun learning experience, and I would love to do it again.

It went well until the end of the project. Working in the group was fine except I don't think we were clear on what we were going to do on the project. I think we could do the same, except you two should make us decide what we're going to do and then stick to it and not change parts. For next year you should probably start at the same time because when I got on for the first time Most of the information was already on the page.

My project didn't go so well. We couldn't communicate well and even though i was sick on Friday and couldn't work on it on the weekend, I was still the first one to edit. I basically did it myself. One person messed up my video recordings and the other didn't make a single edit. At least the other guy made an effort to contribute. I feel that because it is not possible to get good communication when not in the same classroom, I don't like doing a project this way. Though I may not like it because I had a bad group. I feel there is no way to make the communication better. That's what I feel about the project.

I think the wikipage went well. My group worked hard and accomplished what they needed to accomplish. The communication in my group was very effective and helped get things done. I could have given my group my Skype address and asked to Skype them. To improve this project for next year's students, I would make sure that all of the students do their share of work and get their things done on time so the whole group doesn't suffer from that one person's failure.

I think that this project was pretty good and flowed pretty smoothly, but I was pretty lucky. I know that there were a lot of groups that had bad partners but I never had to deal with that. My communication with them was okay, but they only worked during their class period. Also, at the beginning they were not posting but all went well at the end.
To make the project better, I think the groups should be monitored a lot more then it was. Also, the groups should be picked very carefully so that bad students are not partnered with other bad students.

Overall, this project went very well. I liked working in a group this way. I got to meet new people. I think that this form of communication was somewhat effective. I could send messages quickly but then I wait for a response before my work could continue. My group members at Mountain Ridge were helpful. I especially liked the photo story. I do not think anything should change in this project except for the number of computers in the classroom. Because there are more people than computers, sometimes people could not work for a whole day. Perhaps next year some students could be allowed to work on the computers in the library.

How did it go:
I think it went okay, but the end turnout was pretty good. We got many posts on the discussion page saying "Great page!"... "Awesome page!"... "Cool!" Though I don't know if they even looked at my page, I still think that it was one of the better pages.
How was it working in a group this way:
I think that some of the people in the group could have been a little more active and stay calm. We had a little problem on what poem to do and it took Mrs. Lubich logging on to sort it out. We also, I'm at fault too, could have said exactly what we were doing. Instead of putting just "Posted stuff and got info." we could of put, "Posted to the blogs: Poems, What to do, and what I did. Found out he made a book in 1914 and another one in 1921" It would of been a whole lot easier with this.
Was the communication effective:
Answered in previous question.
What were things we could have done differently:
Along with the communication problems we also could have made one photostory and not two seperate ones. We also could have put all of our sources but some of our people wouldn't tell the rest of our group and didn't put it up.
What went well:
1) We had a great page in the end.
2) It was organized
3) We had a timeline of important dates in his life
4) We had a large amount of posts of discussion page
Differently:
1) Could have discused with the grup about what I was going to post
2) Could have talked to the PBMS member more.
3) Let other people do their parts (On the first night, I went on and posted all of the facts and didn't tell them I was going to do it. They, in effect, didn't have anything to post.)
4) Added a little (not too much) but a little bit more color. It was all black and white but it could have use maybe a background color or colored headings (?)
Same:
1) Stay active
2) Get facts
3) Make sure the work is quallity
4) Respond to the posts
For next year:
1) Tell the students NOT to post the "Happy holidays" emails
2) Tell them to be descritive
3) Check the wikis daily and tell them what to do in person (I understand that the teachers have a lot of work to do but if Mrs. Gutsmiedl [not blamming you or anything] would have said "Hey, X, your wiki isn't coming along, try to go on tonight and fix ___ and get a better grade" I wouldn't believe that my group and I made a page that could have been mistaken for a 35 year old's page.
4) Show them some of the 95+ grades to show them what a good page looks like. (That would of also helped me)
Thanks Mrs. Gutsmiedl for an opportunity to meet new people that are also gifted students. It was fun and Can't wait to see you tomorrow. (It's 1/3/12)
