Kyrston SHailey, Mr. Halloway's "trick" killed the Dust Witch. In the book it even states, "He knew she was dead."

Shania M"The Witch, if she were alive, would have known that sound, and died again." This quote from chapter 49 shows that Mr. Halloway's trick being the smile and laughs had killed the dust witch.
