The Maccabees

December Free Write (TRANSUE! just reposting this because the format was all funny and was bothering me)

Lately music sounds too similar and people are in need of something new. As a result of that I’ve gone on a quest to find a new sound. The Maccabees, an indie rock band from the UK, has caught my attention. Their unique sound and addicting lyrics has gotten me to want to download any album I can find.

Their album “Colour it in” was one of the first albums I’d gotten a hold of. I’d known a slow acoustic version of the song “First Love” but I soon started loving songs like “X-Ray”, “About Your Dress”, and “Mary”. Their accents give them that nice sound and edgy pitches. Here in the states it’s not as common. The song “Precious Time” holds that unique sound making it so lovely to hear.

Unable to find other albums on iTunes, I found songs off their other albums off other sources. The song “Seventeen Hands” off the album “Wall of Arms” has a sound you don’t hear every day. That perfect hum along sounds makes you want to restart the song over. Other songs like “Can You Give It?” and “One Hand Holding” have the same loving sound.

The Maccabees have an extraordinary sound and a new twist. I hope after reading this you will go out and listen to the Maccabees. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. It’ll give you a new sound to your dreary music collection.

Here are the lyrics to the first song and one of my all time “First Love” by The Maccabees

First love, Last love

Only love, it's only love

First love, Last love

Only love, it's only love

Do you miss home?

Do you miss home?

And are you cool?

Symmetrical?

Oh Oh Oh

Let's get married

And tick the boxes

Oh lets get married

And tick the boxes

Do you wanna be alone?

Do you wanna be alone?

And are you cool?

Symmetrical,

Analytical

Hypocritical

So critical

Nothing's perfect; I'm hoping I'll do

Oh nothing's perfect; I'm hoping I'll do

My mistake

And no mistake

And I would take it back if I could

So stay with me tonight

I'll make my bed, I'll lie in it

Enticing with its leopard print

I'll make my bed, I'll lie in it

Enticing with its leopard print

And matching velvet duvet

First love, Last love

Only love, it's only love

First love, Last love

Only love, it's only love

It's only love (x3)
