The Paris Wife by Paula McCain
The story of the Hemingway's years in Paris are told in the voice of Ernest's first wife, Hadley. They meet, fall madly in love and marry in short order. Ernest is very young and emotionally scarred from his experiences in the war. The couple moves to Paris, the center of the artistic world at the time. At first Ernest is intimidated by the members of the "Lost Generation", but eventually they become dear friends of Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald and other literary stars. However the hard drinking and non-traditional values of Paris in the 1920s eventually takes a toll on Ernest's relationship with Hadley and also his friends. A fascinating tale of love and loss, which chronicles the rising success of a giant of literature juxtaposed with the slow demise of his first marriage.
