This picture is of children of the Ambororo nomadic tribe in South Darfur carrying water in plastic containers for their families. And I got this from United Nations Photo's photo stream.
There needs to be international awareness on the millennium development goals for 2015! The millennium development goals for 2015 are issues that deal with water, hunger, child survival, child labor, women rights, HIV and aids, displacement, and education. These are the problems that countries around the world hope to solve by 2015 and by solving these universal problems we can eradicate huge death rates and help form a stronger society as a whole.
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development
One project underway for goal numbers one, five, six, eight is the company Sanofi Aventis. Sanofi Aventis' specific goals are to conduct research and develop partnerships with outside organizations that work in the field of malaria treatment or prevention. They are trying to increase the number of African countries where ASAQ is available at cost for public markets. They are also working on improving care provided by healthcare professionals for the treatment of malaria and improving local populations' ability to protect them against the risk of contracting malaria. They are also working on increasing the number of patients who have access to Sanofi Aventis antimalarial drugs through public and private markets. They have so far set up a Research and Development program for infectious diseases. They also launch a clinical center in Africa. They also brought medical personnel into help. They also are monitoring sales and public markets. I'm very proud and relieved to know that there are companies like my dad's that are trying to change the world for the better.
