 What you never would've thought about ... WATER POLLUTION!!! 1.what is water pollution? * water is considered polluted when chemicals, pathogens, or contaminants are found in the water. (these are the 7 types of water pollution) *surface water pollution *groundwater pollution. *oxygen depleting pollution. *large concentrations of nutrients.(pollution) *microbiological *suspended matter *chemical and THAT, folks, is paragraph number 1!!! yayyyy!! wooohooo!!:D 2. What are some of the sources of water pollution? well, this question is not what mr.teacher guy wanted the answers to. he wanted me to answer the question called.... 2.explain what the 7 types of pollution do to our waters.SO I WILL! HAHA! WHAT NOW MR. TEACHER GUY! *surface water(oceans,rivers,lakes)pollution.the answer (yes the ONLY answer, mr. teacher)is REALLY vauge,but here it is. "these waters can become polluted a number of ways, and this is called surface water pollution" heres the link to the site.http://www.water-pollution.org.uk/ wow. that didnt work.ummmmmm..... *groundwater pollution is usually caused by pesticide contamination in the soil, this can infect our drinking water and cause huge problems. *oxygen depleting pollution. this one is kinda complicated. when too much biodegradable stuff is in the water, the # of microorganisms increase and use up the oxygen. this is called oxygen depletion. *nutrients.(HUH? youd think that nutrients would be a good thing, but this is an assignment about water POLLUTION.not good healthy water stuff.this is what it actually means.)if large amounts of wastewater or fertilizer get into the water, too many plants grow, and that is bad because tht can contaminate drinking water, and clog filters. this can also be bad for other aquatic animals because the plants use up all the oxygen if there are too many of them. *"microbiolgical water pollution is usually a natural form of water pollution caused by microorganisms." many microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa live in water and can cause fish,animals, and humans to get sick *suspended matter............... some pollutants dont dissolve in water 'cause their molecules are too big.this stuff is called particulate matter (wow, long strange words, anyone?)toxic chemicals can be suspended in water too. NOT GOOD!! TOXIC!!?? =O *chemical. many different chemicals can run off into water and pollute it. metals and solvents from industrial work and stuff can pollute rivers and lakes.pesticide run-off is BAD.but oil spills are really bad.they can kill fish and endanger birds and stuff because they can't fly because of the oil. See? Bad. 3.what are some of the consequences of water pollution? *the food chain can be damaged *diseases can spread easier via polluted water *acid rain (ACID RAIN?!I didn't know there was acid rain!!!) can harm fish and plants *food sources contaminated 4.what can be done to improve the quality of water after it has been polluted? *to keep water clean, sewage goes to a water treatment plant where it is cleaned chemically so it's safe *also, ozone wastewater treatment is popular.it breaks down pollutants in the water. *Dentrification is an ecological approach that can be used to prevent the leaching of nitrates in soil, this in turn stops any ground water from being contaminated with nutrients.I have no idea what that means, but mr. Teacher guy wanted more examples, so I gave him....... AN EXAMPLE!!! IMPORTANT PART!! READ THIS!!! HELLO!! READ. THIS. DOWN HERE!! LOOK=http://!!!! READ THIS ALREADY!!!! 5. What are some actions that can be taken to help prevent water from being polluted? *paint, oils, and other stuff like that DO NOT belong down the drain!! It doesn't really tell you what to DO instead, but I SAY PUT THEM IN THE GARBAGE CAN! *don't overuse pesticides and fertilizers *don't litter=http:// The end!!
