The last book I read was called " The child called It". It was a true story about a boy who was abused by his mother and everytime he would try to tell someone about she would always find out about it and would make him stay outside in the snow with no jacket or not feed him but that was all the time. Sometimes the mother will let him sit on a burning stoves naked and just whatch him burn.  When his dad tried to help him and the mother would always get in a fight so he left and lived somewhere else. Then the police noticed the bruceing and took him to a foster home and the mother never saw him again.
