Here's some facts on Jaguars
Did you know that Jaguars are the third largest living cat species, after the tiger and lion? Jaguars can be sixty-nine to seventy-three centimetres tall and one point seven to two point four metres long. They weigh between fourty-five and up to one-hundered and thirteen kilograms. Jaguar's kittens stay with their mothers for over a year before fending for themselves. Jaguars can live up to fifteen to twenty years. They eat deer, peccary, crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, sloths, tarpirs, turtles, eggs, frogs, fish and anything else they can catch. Jaguars usally hunt on the ground but sometimes hunt from trees to pounce on their prey. Jaguars have strong jaws and sharp teeth which usually will kill its prey with one bone crushing bite to the skull. The name 'Jaguar' comes from the Native American word meaning 'he who kills with one leap'. Unlike most big cats, Jaguars love to play in water. They often swim, bathe and play in streams and pools. Jaguars can be found in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and from Mexico all the way down to Patagonia. They are rare in the United States and are on their offical endangered species list. The size of the Jaguar population is unknown because of poaching. The main threat to Jaguars is the loss of their habitat. What we can do to save jaguars, is to tell more people about jaguars and that people are killing them so they will help stop the poachers.
