My Camp Recount.
Ring ring ring!!! , my alarm went off. The day had come, the day we were going to Lake Rotoma Camp. When I got to the hall the Puarenga students looked so excited. We were going to learn about the bush, survival skills and team work. We were going from the 7th to the 11th of March.
Our first activity was kayaking. Hayden and I were in the same group. The water looked tranquil and sparkly. We started to paddle out onto the beautiful, shimmering lake. Hayden started to stand up, it was a dumb idea so I pushed him out! It was so funny, I was jumping out of my skin. When he got back into the kayak he was freezing.
Next we had science with Miss Curtis. We had to find trees and plants. One of the trees looked as tall as a sky scraper. Hayden found a huge mushroom, it was grey. There were lots of skeleton leaves on the ground and lots of cobwebs.
The next day we got up at seven thirty and went for a run, it was not pleasant at all! We had raft building, it was ok. When we got in the water I was freezing to death, it was like I had icebergs on the end of my nose! We had to make a raft to fit fifteen people. We didn't beat the parents in the race but I think they were cheating a lot.
The night had come, the night of the ‘burma trail’. Matua Del led us into the bush. He turned off the light and it was pitch black! Hayden and I tripped over straight away. It didn't help that there was a loopy guy on the loose! The burma trail was fifteen minutes long, but it seemed like it was two hours long.
I enjoyed Lake Rotoma Camp and I am looking forward to Thornton Beach Camp next year. It will be a blast!!!
